Conventional Filipino name change meaning

Maria Clara Santos Reyes married to John Doe Becomes Maria Clara Reyes Doe?

When I filled out the forms for the I-130, AOS, etc, I used

First name: Maria Clara

Middle Name: Reyes

Surname: Doe

in essence I just dropped my mom's maiden name (which I was very reluctant to do..hahaahha)

I don't foresee any problems because a friend (who went through the exact same processes) filled out the USCIS forms like I did.

I had wanted to hyphenate my name (just because I love my father's name) but was advised by one lawyer to just use my husband's surname to avoid questions and complications. I don't know what made him say that. But okay, just to avoid any complications, I just filled out the form as I did. I'll just hyphenate my surname when applying for employment. ha ha ha

Congratulations! Makes me feel more postiive. I own't be home until late tonight so I can't check the mail yet. Curious if they sent it out on the 28th or waited for awhile after the letter was printed. ANy touch on your cases now that the letter has been sent? We just had that touch on 2/2 on AP whatever that means.

Thanks! I'm sure yours is here, too. The notice date was 1/28 letter was actually post-marked 2/2, so they waited a couple of days. My appointment is so far off, though.

I've seen some cases where they've transferred to CSC before the biometric appointment. I wonder how that works.

Yup! I think it's because the state laws are different.

Michigan seems to be more strict for some reason :(

They told me I was supposed to follow the U.S. naming convention but she would leave it up to the USCIS officer who handles our case to decide what name should be used on the green card.

My husband and I have always planned on me taking his last name and everyone already calls me Mrs. _____ - I love my husband's last name ^_^

I actually wouldn't mind keeping my mom's maiden name (it's a lovely Spanish name) but I just figured it would be easier to follow the Philippine naming convention because I'd have to get my passport amended at some point (probably when we come home to the Philippines to visit).

Here in Puerto Rico the bride can choose to keep her name if she prefer. So Corina kept her last name. I guess this varies from state to state.

In the Indian culture a girl's middle name is her father's first name then when she gets married her middle name becomes her husband's first name...so we planned to do that, however the State of NY says you can only change your last name at the time of marriage and in order to change the middle name you have to go to through a complete name change process...so on the marriage certificate it is:

First: Same

Middle: Still her dad's first name

Last: My last name

So applied for everything i.e. State ID, SSN, AOS/EAD/AP forms with the same name on her marriage certificate. We decided to leave the middle name as her fathers and deal with that change in the future.

Do you already have an account?

If you do, when you login to your "Portfolio", there's a "Last Updated Date" - when that changes, that's a "touch" ^_^

Checked my portfolio, I have touches yesterday for both I-485 and I-131, I hope it's the biometrics appointment letter already.

Thanks FAE! I should be glad but now all my documents from USCIS don't have my hyphenated name. Hope there's nothing to be concerned about

So regarding biometrics, I suppose I should just bring my passport as my photo ID. That's just great, because my Canadian passport has my first name hyphenated.

I'm so confused, and the Customer service line does not work!

If you want to talk to a someone use the 18003755283 and press 1 then 2 then 3 and you'll talk to someone. This is if you have lost your receipt number or don't have one but you can talk about any concerns you may have.I had to call them every day for a month because of a J1 waiver and I always talked to someone. If the first person is not going to be able to help you ask to be transferred to a supervisor ( one time I had to be transferred 3 times before I got an aswer. Good luck!

I wonder why we never get touches.

I'm pretty sure the touches we got yesterday for the I-485 and I-765 were just because of the biometrics appointment - the lady who took my fingerprints scanned both barcodes on the ASC notice.

So today I received my NOA 1 of my EAD. Does it mean they will send me another appointment for biometrics again?

When i got my rfe. It said that The service will process your Form-I765, Application for Employment Authorization ( if submitted ) within 90 days of the receipt of your missing initial evidence. ????? Meaning? In my understanding they will process it after I response to my RFE? or what? lol I just don't get it. I haven't response to my RFE yet coz I'm still going to finish my Med. Exam tomorrow!

Thanks so much for that information! I just called them, told them about the error in my name and got a helpful person who put in a "typo" request for me. I should receive a notice from them in 45 days!

If I remember it right, I think we had 3 touches so far. When I registered for the case status update, the date on the "last date updated" was January 29 which is the notice date of my NOA, then there was a touch again last February 1 which was when the check was cashed, and the latest one was yesterday, so Im hoping it's the biometrics letter already.

Yay! Congratulations on the NOA!

They're waiting to receive your RFE response before they resume processing of the I-765.

Getting an RFE on the I-485 means they suspend processing on any benefits related to it (in this case that includes the I-765 and I-131)

Thanks so much for that information! I just called them, told them about the error in my name and got a helpful person who put in a "typo" request for me. I should receive a notice from them in 45 days!

*whew! That's great! I'm so glad you finally got through the NCSC!
