I have a question for you. What is your J1 visa saying? Are you subject to 2 years home residency requirement?That is what they might want to know.

I had a J1 before and I had to get a waiver because I had the 2 year thing on my passport. I don't mean to scare you it is just one possible explanation. I hope for your sake that you don't have that 2 year requirement or if you have it that you got a waiver... Good luck!

good luck everyone who will have their interviews this week!

No, my J-1 visa doesn't have the 2-year requirement...

I keep hoping that they are actually working on my EAD but scanning in the wrong barcode LOL

But I know that's not really true because the dates for my daughter's I-485 are changing as well.

Le sigh...

If I were you I would request an Advisory Opinion about the J1 visa. I know that you don't have too much time until the interview but I would do that just in case and it's pensing by the time you go to the interview. Sometimes they don't trust what it is on the visa and want to look into that (sometimes they forget to put the 2 year requirement or use it when they shouldn't). The fact that they are looking at this so much means something.

Go to the US Department of State website and request that just in case( It is free and you have nothing to lose).You can read more about the J1 visa and see what others have experienced. Good luck!

I tried emailing the Department of State, but got an email back that they would not be replying to me personally and referred me to their website. On my DS-2019 the customs agent checked off that I was NOT subject to the 2-year rule. On the website it says people are subjected to the rule if:

Government funded exchange program - The program in which the exchange visitor was participating was financed in whole or in part directly or indirectly by the U.S. government or the government of the exchange visitor's nationality or last residence;
Graduate medical education or training - The exchange visitor entered the U.S. to receive graduate medical education or training;
Specialized knowledge or skill: Skills List -The exchange visitor is a national or permanent resident of a countrywhich has deemed the field of specialized knowledge or skill necessaryto the development of the country, as shown on the Exchange VisitorSkills List.

I'm here on an internship sponsored through the Center for International Education and Exchange (CIEE) which I paid for myself (almost $3,000 when all was said and done). There has been NO government funding from either country. My internship is at a City, but it is an unpaid internship and I get absolutely NOTHING for working there (other than experience of course). It's a Human Resources internship so it's not deemed medical training or a specialized skill necessary to the development of the country, so I don't see where the problem would be. Seems pretty straight-forward to me!

I hope you are right! I didn't benefit from any of those either and still I was found subject to the rule.But each case is different and maybe you will have the happy ending unlike others. Good luck!

Now that AP has been approved, how do we use it? And can we use it multiple times?

Received the EAD card today (the picture on it is from the biometrics appointment) and two copies of AP (the picture on that is the passport size photo we submitted with the application) - and it says it is valid for multiple applications for parole for the validity of the AP which is until 22 March 2011.

Come on AOS...
