If I understand it well, according to this page, I should be able to get the learner's permit just with K1, correct?

I should go there with my passport with i94, and this is it?

I'm not sure about when I'll get my Alien Registration Number, as a K1?

I don't know how to drive, and I would like to practice as soon as I can. :x

So this is my plan, get learner permit asap, get married, apply for AOS, and then take the driving test.

But... for Permanent Resident Immigrant the requirement is either the card or

"Valid, unexpired foreign passport with visa stamped "processed for I-551"

Well i-551 is the renewal Green card form...

I can't see anything I could fit in in this requirements list... :help:

If there's anyone here who recently passed the driving test in Delaware, please raise hand! ;)

I would really appreciate your feedback. :)

I-551 IS the green card actually. It can be a stamp in a passport or it can be the actual card.

Two things you should check - do you need a Social Security Number in order to get a driver's license, and does the I-94 have to have a minimum amount of time on it when you apply? Many states are moving to the policy of only issuing licenses and permits for the same length of time as is on the immigration document - and some have a minimum requirement, usually 6 months, for which that document needs to be valid.

You will want to apply for your SSN about 10 days after your arrival. It is better to get it sooner rather than later even if it means getting it in your maiden name. It is often easier to change the name than to try and get a first card with a married name that differs from the immigration documentation. It can be done but a lot of people have had to 'fight' for it.

hmm - ok, I checked the link. It appears you can qualify for a DL IF you are able to satisfy all of the categories. The problem is that the only primary document you have is the I-94 and that is only valid for 90 days. The instructions say this: The expiration date on driver licenses and identification cards must not exceed the period of time non-citizens are authorized in the United States. So, it appears you can get your permit/license only for the same length of time as is on the I-94. Interestingly, an EAD is NOT listed as an acceptable document, so once the I-94 expires it looks like you need to wait until you get your AOS approved and receive your greencard or the I-551 stamp before you can continue.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

gOOD pIECE OF advice Kathryn41 . Certainly anyone on K1 has to wait till their AOS is approved. I-94 policy in Texas states that it has to be 6 months to 1 year valid prior Texas Id or driver license filing. Patience is the key ^_^

Thank you for your time Payxibka and Kathryn.

After reading this page again, I found "Employment Authorization Cards, Forms I-688A, I-688B or I-766 with the “A” number on the form" under the Primary Documents list.

Well I-765 is not listed, I understand that 766 is EAD + AD combo card...?

This page is very new, it wasn't there last time I checked. It seems they just need a document with the A number so they can process it through the SAVE verification system.

It would be cool if all what they need would just be the A number. If they have a way to verify it, I don't see why they would need further documents. But oh well...

Anyway I highly doubt I'll be able to pass the test after 60 days of learner's permit, hrm hrm. :D

I'm from FL and just received my Learner's permit. And I've had my battles with the DMV offices here. It's true that once I-94 expires, your learners will

also expire. I applied once I got my notices (NOAs) from USCIS stating that i'm on the process of getting my status changed. They accepted them. But

diferent states have different rules.

Best to call them.
