Here is the info on the Vietnam Embassy website about preparing the documents prior to going to VN. http://www.vietnamembassy.us/consular_serv...y_a_vietnamese/

Others here can tell you how to go about it in VN. From what I recall others saying 2 weeks is cutting it close.

When it comes to HCMC, document everything starting as early as possible... 2 weeks can be done, as another VJ'er can attest, but that took a little $ to the right people and that may have resulted in a red flag when it came to the case.. (they were denied) as the CO's know what it takes to get married in VN.

be sure to take plenty of photos with every relative in sight and try to take photo's every day.... it does not hurt to have many photo's but it can hurt to have too few if the case has red flags...

Many of the members here are on holiday so it may not be immediate hearing from folks that went through the marriage process in VN... best wishes on your endeavour...

Get an attorney, as Scott said, it is supposed to take about a month, but it is possible in 2 weeks, but if you get an atty, then they can start the process, and maybe just maybe you can get some of your tests done in america before you even go there. Good luck Jerome

You can do it yourself and get it done in 2 weeks--it's possible--I did it.

I did all the paperwork myself and got everything filed and certified in Vietnam the two weeks I went back to get married including the medical and interview. It was very rush rush, but $150 bucks helped push the paperwork along. Almost had trouble during the interview because my signature was different between the form I filed and the signature I usually use--I left out my middle initial. But after writing my name 50 times and it coming out somewhat different each time, they approved my paperwork and we went ahead with the wedding that week. After we got married, we filed the marriage certificate in the same building and it was approved a day before I left to fly back to the US.

Everyone's case is different though, and I might have gotten lucky (we got the visa), so be careful where you tread and just be sure you're ready for the rough ride ahead. All things are possible, it just depends on who you talk to and who you know...

Hopefully some others who have gone this route (CR-1) will post their experiences. One thing that can affect this is if one is Caucasion American and one is Vietnamese. I have heard some pretty rough stories about getting marriage liscence. May not happen but it is possible. Just be preparred. I think the best advice we all can give is to take your time and make sure you are well prepared and documented. We wish you the very best of luck and a Happy New Year!

If you follow these steps you will have NO problem. The hardest part is that everything has to be AUTHENTICATED TWICE!!!! After you have everything Notarized you have to take ALL the notarized Documents to the STATE OFFICE of AUTHENTICATION (Usually part of the States State department). SOOOOOOOOO try to get everything notarized by the SAME notary. They can authenticate a GROUP of documents with the SAME notary. That will save you a little money. I had 2 notaries (COURT CLERK and the Notary at my office) they will seal everything with a crest and a binder. The consulate will then STAMP everything for you. Next you mail that (GUARENTEE MAIL) to you fiancée. We did use a service in HCM for the filing on that end.

After the ceremony it will take at least three weeks for it to be official. You have to return and and sign some more papers. GET THE MARRIAGE CRERTIFICATE TRANSLATED THEN!!!! GET ABOUT 3 COPIES, YOU WILL NEED THEM. IF you need it faster it was about $100 USD a day for expidited service.

GOOD LUCK!

two weeks will be hard and i would not risk it if you only have two weeks. if you for whatever reason can't complete it in 2 weeks, you're forced to come back for another visit. you should go twice, a week each time. first trip: wedding/physical/start paperwork. second trip: finish paperwork. my marriage lic took like ~ 45 days to prepare. if you only have two weeks, that's what i would do.
