Pudge is not better. He tried to eat and drink something but 5 mins later he threw up again. I really don't know what to do. :help:

At least he's not in pain, he's just happy to be with me and sleep right next to me on the couch. He's following me everywhere.

Is there a chance he ate something inappropriate at the dog park? Someone's mitten? Some thrown away food or food wrappings? Some dogs are notorious for eating everything even stuff that isn't meant for food. A friend has two dogs that they are seriously thinking of muzzling when they go for walks because the dogs grab up everything they find along the way and swallow it before my friends can stop them. They had a recent veterinary scare when one of the dogs scarfed down some toadstools at the side of the pathway. He threw most of it up but there was still enough residual side effects that he needed veterinary attention.

From the suddeness that this developed and the fact that he is up to date on his vaccinations and you just had a visit to a dog park it really does sound like he might have eaten something inappropriate. It could be blocking him, thus his inability to eat and drink. I agree that if he isn't substantially better by morning that you take him to a vet, or if he gets worse, take him to the emergency vet.

If he has a lot of diarrhea and is throwing up he may also become dehydrated. If you can get him to drink some pedialyte (unflavoured - available at most pharmacies in the babies' section) it will help to combat dehydration and keep his electrolytes in better balance - which will make him feel better. You can also syringe it into his mouth - it might stay down better if he doesn't get a lot at once.

Good luck

I comment "smoking is bad. smoking will kill you." because I've given him a hard time about it for like 10yrs now

he replied "I know. I'm quitting."

I said "yeah I can tell. great photo!"

does this make me mean?

Im worried about the Pudge, too. Great advice, Kathryn!

Amby, no. But smokers don't like you to point to them the obvious because they already know the facts and choose to smoke anyway. It's like scolding a child, IMO.

Thanks for all the advice.

I managed to get him to drink some thin chicken soup and warm water and it stayed in. Next step will be some mashed potatoes. So far no diarrhea.

I'm sure he dug up something in the yard, he tends to bury his chews when I'm not looking. The dog park here is very well kept and I usually go around and look for things before I let him wander off.

He's alert now, looking for his food bowl and his "magic sock" :D

Jeez, I forgot that dogs are like kids sometimes, he gave me quite a scare.

I think I will buy some of that pedialyte, just in case.

Operation January Turkey Day has begun. Turkey has about another 45 minutes of thawing before it goes in. Pumpkin pie is done - working on the stuffing now.
