I guess I come off as trolling but I've been around VJ for many years & have always (in the past) enjoyed the RU forum. I like learning about the quirks of other cultures, and this is often a recurring theme in the RU forum. (MENA, too, which I also enjoy reading for that same reason.) Ya'all have always had your share of anti-American women hating men. Hell, I totally get the desire to have a traditional marriage and even the idea that you have to go overseas to find the right bride. But it seems like this entire forum, which used to be so diverse in its opinions, has been taken over by people like VV who advocate beating their wives. Shouldn't variety be the spice of life? The bitterness makes me sad because I remember the way this forum used to be.

However, my main argument is that YOUR argument goes both ways. I have a man that does not even nominally cook, clean, or take care of himself. When we were originally living together, he did his fair share. But during the wait for his gc/ead, where I was working full-time, going to school full-time, and also taking care of the house and cooking everything -- I should have put my foot down somewhere. I now have a man who has gained 100+ lbs (yes, even overweight men are capable of looking gross), refuses to even boil water, and crows for weeks because he took out the garbage once. And I married a liberated, feminist Canadian man.

This whole subforum has become its own little enclave with posters acting like their thoughts/ideas/actions are somehow different because they married a RU woman. That's not true.

I feel like there is a lot of diversity here. But we all also have something in common. We all married people from the FSU. If you wanted expressions of love for California girls, you probably came to the wrong place.

As for interlopers...time was around here that there was a diverse enough group within the RU community that misogyny like yours was challenged and shown for the shite it is by one or more of our own. But a few people like you have pretty much driven out most of the more sane RU'ers, and this place has taken on the virtual stench of a poorly cleaned locker room. You do a disservice to us all when you spew this kind of garbage. (we always wonder why there aren't more women here--it's because people like you create a hostile environment for them, yes even the FSU women) I didn't used to welcome the drive-bys, but I do now. Who you married and what nationality she is gives you no special protections against being called out on your posts, and I for one am glad to see it. Bring them the #### on.

And I don't care to speculate on your home life, but you've gone to great lengths to explain how Russian women expect to be domestically abused. So why you're so horrified by another posters implications on how you treat your own spouse is really beyond me. I'd more expect you to wear it as a badge of honor.

That's hard to argue with, and you are the current leading representative of Russian men on the forum. You are the expert.

I'd like to hear what you have to say about the state of things between men and women in today's Russian culture...especially with interest in women who lived under communism and outside the Moscow or St. Petersburg areas. I ask this in the context of the current discussion.

Can you help us less informed posters? I'd really like to hear from you.

The reason I have not voiced my opinion much on this is because no matter how you spin it - it will be subjective. Subjective to personal experiences and what one saw around him/her while growing up, maturing, when the SUnion fell apart.

Basically, from what I've always seen it: Russian (let's just generalize all three nations into one for just this one instance, because mentality is the same) women are not submissive, they are not doormats. They are just smart about what they want and what they need. Yes, they can do everything on their own (and they do it, if they have to), but the main position is: if a man can do it, who should I. They expect us to handle certain things in life: providing for the family (well, that changes once they move to U.S.). Damn, I don't even know, there's so much stuff brewing in my head at the moment, about how things are and aren't.

I guess the most important thing for me is: they let a man be a man, and not just let - they encourage it, instead of emasculating feminism trends that seem to be more common in America.

I am not generalizing. Everyone's different and everyone's situation is unique and special.

After review I am keeping this topic closed. It has gone grievously off topic for a number of pages in addition to generating some racial stereotyping comments and insults. These are unnecessary in any discussion as well as being violations of TOS.
