Given the size of the Quaran, even the faithful did not include it all in their responses. I did get some peaceful verses as requested though, of course they were from the early parts of the book.

Armchair theology? I think not... Not quite sure what your interest is in denying terrorists give Islam a bad name. That is not theological, it is a topical issue.

You must understand HUNT, he is all for stereotyping and paint all people of a religion with one brush... he just picks and chooses which ones he does it too.

Interesting. I guess I'll take your word for it.

Danno has your back, I shall have to retreat!

The terrorists have the brush Danno, but I know you need to pretend to support anyone else by me.

As the responses from the local VJ Muslims attest, Islam is not to be questioned, nor are the ongoing atrocities committed in the name of Islam, from the incident in this OP, to the Muslim with the explosive underwear trying to blow up 300 fellow travelers on an airplane, to the fatwa's issued on Mr. Rushdie and others at the behest of certain Islamic leaders to be in any way construed as having any type of reflection upon the Islamic faith. And no Muslim should ever feel they should need to choose between betraying a fellow believer and saving innocent lives.

At least that is what I have gathered from this thread.

Personally, I don't think its reasonable to collectively blame the worlds muslim population for the actions of extremists. Its not explicit, to be true, but there does seem to be a persistent assumption that muslims are somehow obligated to defend and justify themselves merely by virtue of being muslim.

There is a dialog to be had on the subject of extremism, but noone really seems interested in that. Its been said many many many times that Islamic extremism has its roots in cultural and political issues, rather than something in the theology that specifically encourages extremist violence.

Yet for all that, no-one seems interested in that side of things - and so we keep getting this nudge-nudge-wink-wink stuff about "missing outrage" and dubious attempts to semantically deconstruct the Koran.

Ready4ONE, you questioned Islam and lived to tell. I showed myself willing to dialogue with you, but apparently you are only interested in expressing your continuing bias. Hunt was right that you got your azz handed to you; you seem to have no interest in learning anything positive about Islam or Muslims. You say I didn't include the Quran in my responses, but I did. I'm not sure what you want, but you seem to be satisfied to spew your hate and ignorance even as you call others hateful and intransigent. It apparently doesn't make you think twice that you are not part of a solution, but happy to be part of the problem.

Danno and Lucky are not responsible for your views anymore than I am responsible for the acts of terrorists. If they are willing to learn, good for them. We all make choices.

Have a good day!

Islamic states condemn attack on Danish cartoonist

STORY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Organization of the Islamic Conference condemns attack on cartoonist
  • Somali man attacked home of Danish cartoonist Kurt Westergaard
  • Westergaard known for controversial cartoons of prophet Mohammed

(CNN) -- The attack on a Danish political cartoonist "runs totally against the teachings and values of Islam," the umbrella organization representing Muslim countries has said.

If the attack was a reaction to Kurt Westergaard's drawing of the Muslim prophet Mohammed with a turban shaped as a bomb, "then it should be rejected and condemned by all Muslims," the Organization of the Islamic Conference said in a statement Sunday.

What did they say???? A condemnation from a very important group based on Islamic States who apparently realize the point of what I said, that the OP act, and all terrorist acts committed in the name of Islam [my addition] deserve to be 'rejected and' wait for it...

'CONDEMNED...'

Don't believe CNN? Go directly to the posting on the OIS site yourself here:

Direct link for statement by OIS

From you I got Islam says to obey the laws of the land, but I reserve the right to protect my fellow Muslim and not report an act of terror should I learn of one because it would be dependent upon adherence to my faith... In other words, you would likely say nothing to betray a fellow Muslim, and made clear you would neither apologize or condemn any acts of terrorism. And my calling on Muslims to condemn the act, I was labeled a Right Wing hate monger.

Frankly I was very happy to see the OIS statement, and never stated all Muslim's nor all of Islam was to be equated with the terrorists, merely that it would be a good idea, apparently OIS agree's, to condemn the act. Very nice to see in my book, and vindication for my maltreatment here on VJ.

Individual muslims are under no obligation to offer public opinions on a subject out of some vague assumption on your part that not doing so means that they are either complicit, or guilty by association.

The concept of privacy isn't some alien concept, nor should it be assumed that because an individual chooses to exercise it that there must be something sinister behind their silence.

The point was made early on that the condemnation you are looking for is out there if you are interested in looking for it. Now you've found it - what exactly is it that you want?

I did notice the Bombers father and his local Muslim leader spoke up and out rather quickly to condemn the sons actions.

One of the things that does trouble me a bit is the Polling we have all seen right after 9 11 and since, it seems to indicate views by MANY in the Muslim community that are quite differnt on this issue than Americans as a whole.

Perhaps others have seen polls which debunk this?

I assume that the "you" you are referring to is me. However, I never said anything close to that, and I'm sure that everyone else who actually read what I posted got it. You have lied about many things and it is clear that you are a very dense person who sees only what they want to see. Anyone who disagrees with you has their views and even easy to understand words distorted. I am struggling to find some good in continuing a discourse on any level with you because civility and reason don't seem to penetrate your prejudices. You have not been abused, you have been corrected. The only abuse is that you resent being corrected.

This statement by OIC is nothing new, or is it the first or the last condemnation from a Muslim group, nation or prominent individual. There have been many, many condemnations over decades. You are new to them, but they are not new to many others who have been paying attention instead of spreading fear and lies, as you have been doing.

I will make dua for you. Get help. Please.

You believe in polls?

To be fair, it has been widely reported that the panty bomber's father tried to stop his son prior to the act by telling US authorities in Nigeria that he had radical views, would try to commit a bad act, and to watch out for him.

Well the bomber's father and this local muslim leader are intimately connected with the guy, so you'd expect that they'd offer some sort of public statement.

As to your question about polling - this wasn't too hard to find.

If you want to play the politically correct game of believing terrorism is not a reflection on Islam go ahead. I disagree and so did OIS.

I was sarcastic in my initial comment, and somewhat in my response to VW's claim she was seeking dialogue and your peckish taunts regarding not knowing what I was talking about in calling for condemnation of the OP and terrorists acts committed in the name of Islam, or discussing Islam in general.

I ask no individual Muslim to drop everything and continuously apologize and condemn the repeated acts of terror ongoing in the world, and was sincere that the OIS statement was EXACTLY what I was asking for. Exaggerating my points does not make your comments compelling. Merely pointing out such acts reflect badly on Islam, and worse, as I pointed out repeatedly.

A duty beyond my religion? Are you saying that I would have to betray my religion to do the right thing and prevent violence? Wow. We are called upon by God to obey the laws of the land in which we live, unless it conflicts with or prevents our obligation to worship God. My duty to my faith requires me to seek justice. Justice is the foremost theme of the Quran in regards to the obligations we have to our fellow human beings. Al Quran says " And that ye slay not the life which Allah hath made sacred, save in the course of justice. This He hath command you, in order that ye may discern." (6:151) Al Quran sends admonishions for the murder of innocents, that this is like killing all of mankind, but that the saving of one likfe is the same the same as saving all of mankind (Q 5:32). That is something you will not find on your Klan websites that perpetuate the hate, making you useless toward a solution to the violence.

And I agree, I misread that particular post. Sorry.
