I have spent all day with no football, purely wrestling with a new iMac (21.5-inch). I was running Eudora 5.1.1 on an indigo iMac (OS 9.1) and want to migrate the Eudora over. Eudora tech support on-line says to download Eudora 6.1.1 Classic, but the new iMac doesn't support Classic or allow the download. The other 6.1.1 took in the contents of my old In and Out mailboxes, but not the specially named ones.

I'm limited to transferring documents between machines on a memory stick. The non-transferring Eudora mail folders appear on the stick as "Eudora 5.1.1" files, but as "Unix Executable" files on the new iMac.

I have tried everything, fruitlessly, si man. Advice is appreciated, please, by PM. Thx., si man.

Good luck with that, I bought a new imac a few months back and I am using a 2 gig thumbdrive to move over what I want..... that tell you how much I know about these things.

Usually when I have a mac question I go to the apple forum on Craigslist.org.

I believe Apple.com also has forums, you might search for your question or ask one there.

The built in Mail application should be able to import Eudora mail folders.

Thanks, but the individualized mail folders end up in the "Mail" application while the In and Out boxes are in Eudora 6.1.1. When I try to create individual mailboxes with the same names as my old ones, in hopes that Eudora 6.1.1 will take them over, Eudora claims that the names "already exist." Something called RESOURCE.FRK appears as a mailbox name in Eudora, and RESOURCE.FRK ends up in many of my new iMac's folders each time I attempt to transfer the old "Eudora Folder" into the Documents folder of the new iMac.

Any other ideas, insights, or work-arounds, please?

new iMac ... running snow leopard? visit the mac forums and search. also check out the endora site. looks like endore 6.2.4 is the newest ...

there may also be some issues with SL as it's still a relatively new release. you've gotta dig for information. I've undergone the same learning curve with my MBP and have been able to find what I look for ... it also helps that the apple store is a 3 minute drive from my office

Gracias to all, si man. An intense telephone caucus with Apple Support revealed that it was simply more efficient to activate Apple Mail (which did receive my transferred "specialized" mailboxes) and to transfer the In and Out boxes from Eudora 6.1.1 to Apple Mail. Ergothuswithforthly, I am up, running, and all set with e-mail, and I have deleted the Eudora download from the new iMac. Now, if only I can navigate this puny wireless keyboard without making a zillion fingergraphical errors because of its small size, si man...

And the 'puter does run Snow Leopard, si man.

Eudora is an e-mail program, my favorite and have been using it for years, latest version for Windows XP is 8.0.0b1. Easy to make folders or directories with sub directories where I have literally thousands of received and sent e-mails saved in a very organized system. Also made an entirely separate directory for all those attachments. Have the entire Eudora program and e-mails stored on my Drive E far away from the root drive, it's the root drive that always crashes, I also have the entire Eudora program stored on my Drive H a partition in a separate drive.

I set it up with an icon I can click that manually downloads all the e-mail at my server, I go to my server first, and like the most of you, have well meaning friends that send me tons of #######, I delete all that stuff first, don't want to overwork my hard drive, just leave the important stuff. Spam is getting rare lately, but usually can find one or two that gets spam blocked.

Do have a complete file on my wife and have saved her very first e-mail to me, there were other women in my life, when I got serious with her, had directories with their names on it, deleted all of those, both sent and received plus all the attachments.

But I am running this on a PC, if you haven't figured this out yet, PC's are very well supported by a huge number of software vendors. Mac was noted for music software like Finale and Kurzweil. But that is long ago history. Did have a Mac I was using for both a dust collector and a paper weight, but finally got rid of it last year.

Say what you want to about Apple, they charge a lot of money to software companies to license out their OS for them to write programs for it. If they ever change that stupid philosophy, then I may again consider a Mac.
