i did too much work in 2009 and this became the catalyst for sanita to see this as the standard norm and expects an increase in fencing in 2010..

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

I agree. The Chicagoland area offers one of the best real estate markets in the country, imho. It's one of the primary reasons I relocated here and bought my home here, after living in the SF Bay area. I just got sick and tired of overpriced housing markets.

You do need to be careful about picking the right suburb, as you say there are dramatic differences. E.g. Oak Park and River Forest are fairly well to do with median home prices around $300K. Right next door however are Maywood and Bellwood with significant gang and crime problems and median prices below $100K! Caveat emptor.

Quality houses below $150K are still going to be tricky to find, even after the recent price drops. You'll certainly find foreclosures and fix-up houses in that price range, but if you want a hassle free house with an easy closing in a good town, good school district - I think $200K+ is probably more realistic. Still much cheaper than Boston, NY, DC, or west coast cities for comparable housing stock.

When you add heating costs and air conditioning too, I wonder how it compares to wonder-full Cali temperate climate.

Is it still cheaper?

And what is the cost to lifestyle?

yes.

Tell us more.

How do you like your extended name? :lol:

I hoped to have have made you at least giggle.

I missed where you confessed a screw up, and I am most certain you have at some in your life in the past year screwed up.

Well, a recent screw up was not completely exposing some people (who shall remain nameless) from the place (that shall also remain nameless) that has a veneer of spirituality and is in actuality being run like a scum-sucking corporation. Only it's way worse because they are not honest about it. Grrrrrrrrrr......

Perhaps I will go to the press with my findings.

But first I will try to undo my screw up by writing a letter to their board.

So much (destruction-to-reconstruction) to do, so little time...hee, hee.

:star:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Another screw up would be...
not nailing people to the wall when they are not being forth-coming, and living in denial.
I allow their complacency to get to me.
Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.........
This time it's personal. :lol:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

About renting vs. buying:

no one did respond to my inquiry about lifestyle...well except for you, w¡n9Nµ7.

I mean seriously, commuting to get anywhere on a daily basis takes years out of your life, is expensive, and cuts down on the important things you could be doing with that time.

The minutes you never get back.

In the end, owning a house is not the romantic idea it is perceived to be:

1. cutting grass that you need to keep putting poison on so it looks nice (killing the ecology and all of our ground-water)

2. repairing roofs, plumbing, heating...oh the list is long (expensive)

3. you cannot "do what you want with your house"...neighbours and committees won't let you! Ask before you buy at your local city hall what rights you have as an owner in changing anything about your house inside and outside.

4. oh this list can go on forever....I'll stop. Hee, hee.

Grass should be a four letter word.

My cost of living is much cheaper here than it was in the Bay area. Transportation is cheaper. Services are generally cheaper. IL state taxes are lower than CA state taxes. And I happen to like a proper 4-season climate with real winters. It comes from growing up in Ottawa Canada with the Gatineaus across the river.

You live in the Chicago burbs and you talk about commuting hell? Metra is your friend, dude.

I used to drive 3+ hours in my daily commute in my former life. I now walk 10 minutes to the train and have a 30 min train ride to read and nap. My commute is now the high point of my day.

Home ownership is not for everyone, granted. But not all of us dread our lawns and driveways and gardens and roofs. Many of us take pride in the ownership and maintenance of our properties. I've rented. I've owned. I own now. Couldn't be happier.
