QUOTE (50 cool 50 @ Jan 1 2010, 10:29 AM) *

sorry naturalised

Well, I did hope for more of a response from a Brit', a tribe known for quick-wit, than just, "Sorry naturalised."

Did I touch on a nerve for highlighting a misspelling?

Have no fear, 'Redcoat'. You're in good shape. The forum 'Mommy' tied you to her apron string and corrected the spelling of your Title. You are WHOLE again.

Cheers,

George

REALLY? That was necessary to answer the OP's question?? Stick to the answer in an objective way please.

I am using the terminology introduced and used by the United States Government. It was part of the Bracero Program to fight illegal immigration from primarily Mexico, and Operation Wetback was an initiative of the INS that started in July of 1954. Reportedly, about 1 million illegal immigrants from Mexico had either been captured or fled over the Mexican border. Were it not for the US Government officials who coined the term and gave it validity and meaning, it wouldn't exist.

Pseudo political correctness stops when it compromises the facts.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

Sure, you make a point that a government program "borrowed" a slur from the 1920s in the naming of a program for the removal of illegal mexican immigrants from the southwestern US. However, this line of reasoning to justify its use in this thread is tenuous at best. I don't presume to reference your country of origin and its governmental practices of the 1940s as a framework for an answer to a question as appropriate. A slur is a slur...an refraining from using slurs does not constitute psuedo political correctness, it is just human decency.

What happened to freedom of speach?

Whilst marriage is the obvious solution could with a pre nup, you might have issues already depending on State regulations.

Amnesty is in the air and you would most likely qualify.
