Hi, totally new here to K-1. I've been living in Bangkok for 7 years and the past 6 months with my fiancee (we met in July 2009 in bkk). I want to go for the K1 but need to know if I can apply from here. I read on embassy site that app needs to go to my home jurisdiction. I suppose for Marco Island Florida that is Vermont? My mother is in Florida but I would prefer mailings from VT to come to me here in Bangkok. Can this happen? I'm new and confused on all of this and appreciate any help from you experts. Thank you in advance, sorry for my lack of knowledge

they don't care what post office originates the mailing.... you can send it from anywhere... best to use a deliverable address in the US for notices

YMMV

This is what I was thinking...

11/2004 - Met in Brazil

09/2006 - Apply for K1

03/2007 - K1 approved

04/2007 - Apply for AOS & EAD

07/2007 - EAD approved

01/2008 - Conditional Residency approved

11/2009 - Apply to remove conditions

02/2010 - Permanent Residency approved

11/2010 - Apply for Citizenship

03/2011 - Citizenship approved

07/2011 - Moved back to Brazil

as noted, you can mail the petition from anywhere. You need a US address to list, your parents would do fine.

You understand that with a K-1 your fiancee will have 6 months to enter the US, get married and adjust status to permanent resident before she can leave the US? This can take 3-6 montha fter you are married. If you intend to live in Thailand, the K-1 is not a good choice. Best choice would be to get married in Thailand and apply for a DCF when and if you are ready to move to the USA
