I was 21, in college, i'm not sure but i think i was at my grandparents beach house with family. lots of homemade great brazilian food, barefoot at the beach watching the ocean and the moon and the fireworks. fun.

in 10 years I:

- grew up, a little bit :P

- went from college party girl to responsible married working mom that loves to be at home with her family

- moved a few times, it was crazy years. I lived in 8 different homes, 3 different cities, with my dad for a while, my best friend for a while, Nietzsche for a while, my mom for a while and then at last in another country which is my current address so far with my husband and son

- finished my education

- changed my hair color at least 5 times

- met my future husband

- got married

- quit smoking

- bought myself my first brand new car

- got pregnant

- had a baby

10 years ago today I was running a pub in Great Yarmouth and getting ready for the big party night ahead....Today I can't think of anything less I would like to do than that, must be all the grey hairs I have grown over the last 10 years

Great Post Jenn...and your 2000 - 2010 life sounds like it was absolutely wonderful!

10 years ago I was an agnostic materialist consumed with professional desires and selfish pursuits...but I was one happy guy for sure!!!

I had just been promoted to a position in our World Headquarters and had relocated from Atlanta to Detroit. I built my own home, and settled in for the 'rest of my life'. After settling in for about 6 months, I realized that the rest of my life looked pretty boring and would probably suck! I sold the house, and started traveling with the job 85% of the time for the next 8 years. I visited dozen(s) of countries, lived in India for a year and found God, lived in Korea for a years, lived in Mexico City for a year...went back to college and earned a second degree...went back to college again and started my third degree...watched my daughter graduate college and my son start college, and finally, just last year I quit the Detroit job and moved to just outside Washington DC and bought and house and settled down with my foreign-bride (haha) who I met about 6 years ago while spinning 'round the world and who is a pure spirit and the light of my life on this earth :innocent:

Its going to be difficult to imagine a better use of 10 years of my life...but I know that the next years will absolutely be better because I  my wife and count every minute with her as an absolute blessing. She'll be home in a few hours and we'll toast to the new decade, together!

Blessings to VJ for a hellahappy 2010!

Never bet against a pub landlord in a drinking competition. They know more awful drink combinations than anyone has a legal right to.

I was 12 and was watching the ball drop at home.

I mean, where else could a 12 year old go?

I was probably playing my gameboy colour too

In 10 years I havn't done a whole lot. Met my fiance online when I was 16, Graduated high school at 17, met my fiance irl at 17, graduated college at 19 and now in the US at the age of 22. Wedding's in the new year, so I can't say I got married.

I was just thinking about how much has changed in 10 years. NYE 2000 I was 19 years old on break from college, partying it up with my girlfriends in Boston. Tonight I will probably watch the ball drop on TV with my husband while nursing my baby. Over the past 10 years I've graduated college, did the living in Europe thing for a few years, got married, established my career, and had a baby. And logged a significant number of hours on VJ I must admit. Amazing how much changes.

Deep, I know.

Where were you 10 years ago and what have the past 10 years brought you?

Happy New Year to all my VJ friends and enemies! :goofy:

Happy New Year to you too, Jenn...and all your anemones! :jest:

:wow:...you did more by the time you were 22 than I did by the time I was 42 :wacko: I better step it up!

Happy New Year!

:protest: I need my wife to get home..she'll be home at 9!

1999 - I was 44 years old and the world was wondering about what would happen with the arrival of the Millennium . . .

I welcomed in the New Year with other members of my Living History/Re-enactment unit - the Kent Military Re-enactment Unit (KMRS) - in Chatham, Ontario, dressed in my ball gown and accessories from the War of 1812 era (as was everyone else). We celebrated by candlelight and lanterns in a restored Edwardian Bed and Breakfast (Jordan House) owned by two of our members, eating and drinking food and beverages prepared from period cookbooks for 1812. We actually celebrated the arrival of the year 1800 instead of 2000, played games and cards from the early 19th century, and shortly before midnight the spokesperson of our group was interviewed live on air by CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) Radio which was doing a coast to coast broadcast about how Canadians were welcoming in the new Millennium. They discussed how we were celebrating the arrival of the new century and raised some of the serious issues the change of the century brought forth - such as when the year changed to 1800 would horses start to run backwards and would pens and ink just stop working, etc. It was tongue in cheek and lots of fun! It was also bitterly cold and as the heater in my car was broken (and I couldn't afford to fix it), I fully appreciated how 19th century women could get 'muslim disease' - influenza and such due to exposure from wearing such thin and diaphanous dresses!

Since then, I ended the 9 year relationship I was in, met my husband, moved to another - and warmer (although you wouldn't think so right now!) country, got married and changed my re-enactment clothes from the thin dresses of 1812 to the many layers of hooped and corseted dresses worn during the War Between the States.

And no - the horses didn't start to run backwards and pen and ink still worked!

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

New years 2000 I was 31 and in a hospital in Orlando pretty drugged up on chemo. Pretty much all of 99' was the same.

Last treatment was April 2000.

Then moved back up to MD. Got a job on a sportfisher going to Venezuela for the winter. Went back to Ven. the following year as well for another 8 month's. Did a sidetracked tour of the Turks and Caicos upon returning home as we found out the officials there take guns a lot more serious then we do here.

Got on another boat in 02 and returned to Venezuela. Then on to Panama, Costa Rica (where I met my now wife in 03) then up the Pacific coast to Cabo San Lucas. Since that job ended I have been on a couple other boats throughout the Bahamas but mostly in Costa Rica, Where I've lived most of the time.

Visted Colombia in 06 and finally got married in 08. Most of the years, I've been home in MD for the summers. Got into hunting and finally got myself a new 4X4 also during the decade.

And of course dealing with the immigration paperwork that we've all come to love so much.

Think I'ts time to wind down this next decade. Of course gotta kick in with a good old fashioned hangover after our night out in Jaco, C.R. tonight!

Happy New Year all! :dance::dance::devil::wacko:

I was 13 years old living in Augusta, GA (family is military) and I remember just celebrating it with my family and being excited for the grown-up sparkling juice :)

Since then, my family moved back to Washington state, graduated high school, was in a 2.5 year relationship in which I was convinced we'd get married after college, but ended, passed my nursing boards, and landed my perfect dream job straight out school in Washington D.C. in a NICU (sick babies) and been here for just over a year. Met future hubby back in '07 at a Harry Potter conference in Toronto...

...and when he gets here we'll be going to the opening of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park and be nerdy with all our HP friends
