Why is travel so expensive over here?

we just got back from about 4 days in Vegas.. we drove there and stayed in a hotel for 3 nights... we spent about 600 bucks for food, lodging, gambling and gas...

we stayed at a nice hotel too, The Mandalay Bay.. 3 nights for 200 bucks

lots of 3rd world folks can't fly or stay at decent hotels in their own country, because airfares and hotel stays are priced according to what types like us will pay.

Since my family left I've had an overwhelming sense of feeling trapped over here! ... I wish I could understand why it is SO expensive to fly domestically within the US and out of the US. How is it that there are companies in Europe that can fly to other countries for less than $10, yet you can't fly to another state for less than $100? How is it possible that a 7 night, all inclusive trip in a 5* resort to Mexico (including airfare) is cheaper from England than it is from Phoenix?!! Why is it that a flight from London to Dallas is over $300 cheaper than Dallas to London on the same dates???? What reasons can there be that a bus trip from London to Poland (27 hours) is $25 yet a Greyhound from Philadelphia to NewYork (2 hours) is over $70? I miss being able to travel .. I miss home so much!!

I would love to know how you got those prices ... I can't even find anything that cheap for going to London (from Dallas)

We got the fare via a travel agency that specializes in US / Africa travel. My wife's cousin bought a ticket from that agency and gave us the contact info since we were planning a trip as well. Usually, you'd be looking at $1,200.00 - 1,600.00 for an adult r/t fare to go to Addis Ababa so this really makes the trip a heck of a lot cheaper - savings of about $2K.

A logical business reduces prices when business is low, airlines are exactly the opposite and increase prices. If they go broke, the government will bail them out.

I guess besides the huge price increases, have to pay extra for baggage, wonder what they will charge me for that third ounce of peanuts. Just way too many web sites that quote ticket prices before all those fees are added, hate that. They don't lead me in, but sure in the heck piss me off.

Travel costs, airfares, etc. are far lower now than they were in the 1970's. Air travel has become relatively cheap in the USA since then.

The fact is that americans are the greediest people on the planet and i am an american so I know this and also having lived overseas as a soldier and as a Evangelist I see how bad most american companies are at being Greedy, and just look at the stae of the economy because of the greedy bankers and the greedy people getting to much credit for things they dont really need.

I don't know about calling all American greedy etc. but I have realized one thing... a lof of people measure their success here by one thing only: How much money they can generate .

So when Delta, American, United, etc. are getting bailed out and SouthWest just keeps trucking along, are they going to offer us discounts on Ford rentals?
