On paperwork from embassy. I need police certificcate each mununicpality, since age 16.

I can RCMP finger print check for $25, I think this across canada, check, 120 day wait. local police records checks are $25 each, I'll need 4 of them, of different cities, does the the rcmp fingerprint data base not cover all others?

I had the same issue, I was told forget the local city police and go right to the RCMP (they cover all of Canada) I did that and all was fine. One fee and no finger printing required, unless of course you have a criminal record.

I'm confused. There are local police stations which don't do Canada-wide checks?

If you have lived in more than one place and it wasn't in the same city a local police check they will not except (only RCMP check) I did not live in the same area since I was 16 therefore even if I was to use the local police , I still had to get one from the RCMP (so why pay for two) and that was a quote from the USCIS.

Just a modification to your information..... I've lived in different provinces and USCIS will accept the local police office checks which are Canada-wide. The only reasons to go to the RCMP is if you have a criminal past and require fingerprinting or if you live in a remote area and the RCMP office IS your local police office. :)

Sorry to say but they would not except mine from my local police and I have no criminal record, they told me I needed RCMP only or it could tie up my Interview and also I only lived in one province so this wasn't an issue either. But I did live in six differant areas in the province.

Maybe so but these are the people that have the right to say yes or no and I wasn't about to hold up anything at the cost of being with my husband, just to argue a point (doesn't seem worth it)

Have a Happy New Year

Okay ... so if I am reading this correctly then, the police certificate I have from the Edmonton Police Service should be okay? I do NOT need to go to the RCMP and get another check done?

See my thread here.
