beginning the application process

I'm getting married in the UK in May this year, and I wanted to travel back to America with my new husband for a 2 week honeymoon. He's American and lives in Arizona. My question is, when we first send in the forms to start the application process off, do I need to be in my home country? will my 2 week vacation in the US make things difficult? Or should I just wait until I get back home?

I realise that when I do travel over there after the wedding, I will have to show immigration that I have definite ties to the UK, and that I WILL be coming back home after the 2 weeks. I was going to take proof of my mortgage and also a letter from my employer. Any other advice on what I might need to show them?

Thanks ~ Andrea :o)

My husband did not have any trouble at all entering the country after we were married. Other people have been denied entry. It all depends on the POE.

It shouldn't matter where you post the forms from if that's what you're asking. Just fill out the forms with your home address in the UK.

Your two week vacation in the US shouldn't make a difference, the only thing is that if you change your name make sure you carry your marriage certificate with you. Immigration shouldn't give you a hard time as long as you have a return ticket proving that you are going back to the UK after your vacation. In my experience this is usually enough, so a mortgage and employer letter should be plenty. Also, you don't necessarily even have to tell the immigration officer that you are married to a US citizen or what exactly you are visiting the US for, you can just say you're on vacation, show your return ticket, and it should be fine. :)

Brilliant, that's great thanks. I have my passport forms here to send in. I can get a new one in my married name 3 months before the wedding. It's going to be so nice travelling all that way with my husband for a change, usually we both travel alone, so it might make the experience a bit less taxing.

Thanks - Andrea
