friends with Russian wives..

back to the original topic, I have found that most Russians in the US are just... not as nice as those who didn't immigrate. Probably different with people like your wives, though, because I think it's different when people immigrate for economic or social circumstances, rather than love.

There do seem to be different cliques here as well. The older folks absolutely refuse to believe that K visa recipients, particularly if they are women, could possibly be here for the reasons stated in their applications. Makes you wonder about that group, and what motivates their every day behaviour.

Yeah, this. It's hard to separate your humorous misogyny from your actual misogyny.

I guess I am not surprised at the difficulty. let me help.

When someone says that two people that are currently the same age will be of different ages in 20 years...it is a joke. Such things are chronologically impossible and therefore can ONLY be a joke.

When this joke indicates the woman will look younger in 20 years than the man of the same age it is a compliment to the woman...not misogyny. Misogyny is, in fact, hatred of women, of which I have never been afflicted. Does this help?

On another note, some people can contribute to threads with conversation, humor, information, anecdotes and general banter. Others can only type one liners insulting what others write. I am rather satisfied to be the former and will accept the criticism, praise, and misunderstanding that goes along therewith. Better than to be the latter which is really not a contributor, just a bomb thrower.

I was also most pleased to see Mcat got their visa approved and did not run out on a pending visa during the decision process as had been recomended by...others who criticized my recommendations as wrong and irresponsible. Sheesh.

so, here is how it will be. I will enter my comments and humor which some people may or may not understand, I really do not care, such is not my problem and I will no longer come back to explain over and over in decreasing grade levels until everyone understands. I assume since we are all of marrying age, we ought to have some functioning knowledge of the language but will admit I may be wrong and overestimating some people's abilities.

My problem is that she is too perfect. The number does not matter (besides, I would have a heart-attack if I tried with more than one woman, any woman). Satisfying such a perfect woman has to be hard work, and at my age, I prefer the peace of mind rather than perfection.

That is why I love my wife: she is imperfect, as I am ... and she loves me too, despite the long list of imperfections I have :innocent:

She is wonder woman. I did have a heart attack. Hmmmm.

I showed Vika the pic, and suggested that we could use the goofy Russian computer guy who paints houses as a sideline if we can call this hottie to snake the drains (all of 'em - should take about a week). Problem solved, thanks.

That picture wouldn't load. Could you guys possibly send me a link to it? I need a good plumber since our bathtub is always backing up. No, it's not hair, gunk, whatever.... it's that of the 39 products we (she) keep stored in the shower next to my ONE bottle of scrubbitallshowergel, appx. 37 of them don't have lids anymore. Now, I'm no genius, but I'm pretty sure plastic lids can only go so far. I need a good plumber to bend over the edge of the tub and really get deep down in there.

I too am pleased, it's always good to see a success story, as well as continue the long-running tradition in this forum of nothing but approvals. I hope the rest of their journey continues to be trouble-free.

As for criticizing you for recommendations that were "wrong and irresponsible," you're throwing up a straw man here, as it was explained very carefully by many people why your advice was wrong and irresponsible. I won't repeat them because talking to walls is not something I find productive, but if you're trying to take credit for his approval, well then lol.

Thanks for the link, Mart. She doesn't look union though and I don't know if I could hire a non-union plumber.

Good point. Here in RUB, we tend to :o when there are serious questions about a petition, or turn on the emergency lights when there is a delay I think because it is rare. Assuming the applicant has a clean record and the paperwork is complete and filled out correctly, COs in Ukraine and Russia have a pretty good track record for approval. Petitions from Belarus have a few more hoops to jump through because of Uncle Sasha, but compared to the Phillipines or some Far East Consulates, still an easy journey.

Hey my water pump and some other related problems fell upon my car and just when I was about to sell it for scrap, a Ukraine guy fixed it and even put a timing belt in for $500. (parts included)

The waterpump alone was a grand anywhere else (ONe of those deals where you have to jack the motor up to get it out).

I think I have mentioned this before but I am amazed at the number of Russian Churches we have in Charlotte, there must be 6 or more, I just noticed two more from flyers I saw at the Deli.

We have been to a few of these churches and they are (in most cases) jam full of people. It's amazing because so few people go to Church in Russia. (regularly)

There was one Orthodox Church I was aware of but once or twice we went and there was no service for some reason, now I see a new one is starting up.... this one seems "hard-core" orthodox as they even have a list of "Rules".... my wife and I got a kick out of, if you can read Russian here it is.

http://derjavnaya.net/derjavnaya/

My wife also meets people on line, some turn out to be very nice and some are the typical "downers" always negative.

Oddly enough we have not met one American/ Russian couple, except for two that I knew of before she moved here.

I think I mentioned this before too,

Another place I run into Russians at nearly every visit is the grocery store ALDIS. It's kinda like a discount off-brand store that have great deals on the items they carry and produce.

Oh god, ditto that sh!t. I've been here almost 10 years now and it's ridiculous, so hard to find any friends within the Russian community here. Snobbish is a very, very mild word to describe them. Gotta catch them "fresh off the boat", then it's possible :)

Vika visits that site often, and has recently reconnected with several ex-classmates. She says that she finds it strange that people who never wanted to talk with her when they sat next to her in class, and even some who didn't like her, are now eager to write and chat.
