Where is your port of entry, Ebrech N Persona? (Land, air?)

Basically there's nothing you need to do. Just let them know you are using your visa and hand them the sealed envelope and passport. They will direct you to secondary where they will process you in. As long as there is nothing you have done to make them refuse you (unwaivered criminal activity, previous overstays, etc) you'll be fine.

Are your parents travelling with you? If they are, they may have to meet you at the gate with all the extra security going on. I'd be prepared for that scenario.

Really nothing exciting does happen - you say you're activating your VISA and hand everything over....as noted, they direct you to secondary because they have some paperwork to do. Considering the silly heightened security - arrive early and expect to wait......not because of your VISA, but just because extra security measures are taking longer at airports period.....you don't want to miss your flight.

Your mom and grandma will have already passed through regular security and will have to wait until you're done to join them. They don't need to go through secondary for your K1 activation

The secondary would be a breeze! Seriously. Remember to bring your paperwork and dont bring food. You might get a really new officer and he/she might not be familiar with the K1 process, but for most of the time, they know what they are doing, especially if you POE at an airport. Danu did have an a$$ of a POE officer, but that was a rare event. In the case that you get the same douchebag, be firm and ask for a supervisor because they have no right to be purposely mean to you. And unless you have some really big legal problems, you wont be denied.

I would say that you need to be there early... maybe give at least 1.5 to 2 hours at secondary alone. You never know what the secondary looks like.

Goodluck!!! Let us know when you made it :)

Minnew: That super sucks! Especially since some US flights charge you to check in your bags :/

My thoughts exactly.... I understand the need to have no carry on luggage, but yeah it's gonna cost more to check.... & what if the airline loses your luggage? When I flew I would at least pack 1 change of clothes in my carry on!

Hi Ebrech N Persona,

Expect a 2 hour interrogation....(just kidding...but that's what happened at my POE....though it was a different situation...scary, nevertheless...)

As for you, expect that it will go smooth and easy, with no problems!

Just have all your paperwork/documents handy, and whatever else you need to come to America, and you should be ok there.

It probably helps too, that your mom and grandma are coming along with you. Sure they will let grandma and mom in too! They can't say no with them along with you! And good luck and congrats about the upcoming wedding too.

Good luck with your POE coming up and good luck with your journey too!..Welcome!

Ant

I'm confused...I haven't POE'd yet so Im not sure how I had a bad POE officer...unless you are fortelling the future! OH NO! Anyway

I was reading last night, most of the airlines are waiving the fees for the first carry on bag that needs to be checked, as long as it would have actually been declared a carryon prior to the no-carry on rule going into effect, so you won't be charged for that one bag. It use to be a charge for extra carry-on bags that needed to be checked but as most flights only let you have 1 carry on now anyway, they are waiving it temprorarily. Depending on your flight though you want to check the airlines website. West Jet announced they won't take large backpacks or roller bags as carry on anymore (#######? my carryon is a roller bag with like exact measurements. pft)

It's not just WestJet - it's all airlines. CATSA (airport security) will not allow backpacks or any roller bags as carry-on. It's now "No Carry-on" just a personal item. As you said though, WestJet is waiving fees for the extra bag if it was supposed to be your carry-on.

Its just wierd I suppose because the last time I flew (october last year) they allowed my bag on no problems. Its right on the side guideline with a collapsable handle. I've had to check it on a few of the smaller craft where their overhead bins were smaller than the airlines poilicy, but never had an issue with it before. Its just like a mini version of my big luggage. Does this mean it wouldnt be allowed on as carry on anymore?

That sucks! I wonder if this is also a secret ploy to force us to pay the $15 each way to check a bag . . .

The airlines arent charging you for the carry on being checked because its not your fault you have to do it....at least for the moment they arent\
