POE at JFK - How much time from plane landing

She is arriving China Airlines Flight CI 0012 via Taipei & Anchorage, estimated arrival at 8:20 PM at JFK.

I almost can't imagine it's happening so soon.

How long did you wait after the plane landed at JFK to pick up your fiancé(e)?

if you go to CBP.gov and look up the airport wait times they post statistics by airport, by the hour. However, since she is changing planes in Anchorage she will transit immigration there and not at JFK

You're right - she didn't talk about the Anchorage leg but when I plugged in her flight number to be sure that will be the POE for her.

I have an idea it will be a little easier than JFK. So JFK will be less complicated because she will be on US soil in Alaska.

I hope that she won't forget the EAD at Anchorage - because THAT is where it will be offered, not JFK

- we didn't talk at all about Anchorage because she was only concerned with the departure and arrival

at BKK and NYC.

I don't think there is an equipment change there, just a fuel stop. So POE would still be JFK.

Thanks, I haven't taken that route so I'm totally ignorant of the procedures there.

I thought that the first time the plane touches US soil had to be the POE - I remember

one 3-leg trip with a POE at San Francisco - but equipment was changed on that trip.

From what I recall reading before, and what I can find now it's approx 1.5 hour stop. Add fuel, rescreen the passengers getting back on, and go.

That's a relief. The scheduled arrival is 7:40 Pacific time and takeoff is 9:25 - That's an hour & 45 min.

I can't believe they would do the POE formalities with that tight a schedule.

If they had to change planes unloading one and loading the other would likely take 2 hours.

Compared to Emirates, United and Thai (others that I've flown) China Airlines gives precious little info.

She used a Thai travel agent because she had very little time. Their electronic ticket printout had

very sketchy info - just departure/arrival times at BKK & JFK, 2 pc luggage and no mention of Anchorage.

Only after I went to their site and plugged in the flight number did I see Anchorage.

Then all kinds of alarm bells started going off.

I think the only POE giving the EAD stamp is JFK. Even then it is only a 90 day stamp, so not really worth much unless she can find someone willing to hire her for 90 days.

Her qualifications are impeccable for working with a Thai company or the Thai consulate here.

We'll get on the permanent EAD as soon as we can.

If they de-board her but she boards the next plane (or same) without leaving the gate she won't have her POE there, if changes gates gets her out of boarding area then she'll go through immigration and do her POE there.

It might be less hectic if the POE were there but I'm hoping everything sticks to plan as she expects the POE at JFK.

I can imagine the thoughts running through her mind as they make the announcement:

"If we have to land on the frozen tundra you will find polar bear repellent and

chemically-activated hand-warmers under your seat.

The instructions are in Chinese for your convenience."

The stamp at the POE is worthless for K1s - she cannot work with it anyway. She must have an EAD card or GC before she can work.

I flew with China Airlines before in year 2005 when I came here with my K-1 visa, flew from BKK-Taipei-Anchorage-JFK. We did the POE at Anchorage so when I got to JFK, I could just go get my luggage and get out. Well that's how I did that time.
