Lagos Interview- Here are the questions asked!

Hey Folks,

Here are the questions asked at the Lagos Consulate for the Visa (not in any particular order).

1. Where did you meet your spouse?

2. How long have you known your spouse?

3. Have you been married before? Do you have any children?

4. Has your spouse been married before? Does she have any children?

5. College your spouse went to?

6. What is your spouse's name?

7. How many times has your spouse visited Nigeria? How long was each visit?

8. How do you and your spouse communicate? Evidence of call logs, chat logs, email.

9. Did you have a traditional wedding? Pictures of the traditional Wedding?

10. What is your spouse's birth order? As in, is she the first born, second born etc.

11. What does your spouse do for a living?

12. Where does she work?

13. Does your spouse own a home?

The key here is to know the answers to these questions because they ask variations of the same questions. Sometimes they feed you information that is wrong to see if you catch it. For instance, one of the questions the interviewer asked was "So your wife owns an apartment right?" This is wrong, I actually own a home. So the correct response was "She actually owns a home in ........" Also, I know that there are some that have been advised to answer "Yes" or "No" to all questions. I think that if you have more information, you can add a little more background. For instance, the interviewer asked.."So your wife went to "blah blah college right?"...My spouse answered "Yes, but she has post graduate degrees from blah blah college too". It shows the interviewer that you know more than the basic information that they are asking for and puts them at ease. Knowing key dates of where and when you met is critical and if there are other life events i.e children, divorce etc, know those facts stone cold. Also there was a question that he didn't know the answer to and he said so. No need to manufacture information if you don't know it. It's better to say.."I don't know" than get into a Spanish Inquisition contest with the interviewer (you won't win).

Be confident, know and practice the interview questions with your significant others and be organized. There is no need to carry mountains of evidence to the embassy. It's not the quantity of the evidence that matters, it's the quality. Call logs, chat logs, pics, email for the last 12 months should suffice. Pictures of the traditional wedding is key if you are both of Nigerian descent. Dress well and be as relaxed as you possibly can given the situation. You want to give the impression that it's not such a big deal (even though we all know otherwise..lol).

Wish you all a very prosperous new year.

Good luck to all and may God bless you all.

Cheers!

congrats, and i wish you all the best in your marriage.

I would like you to assist me please. My hubby filed for K1 visa but we've been engaged traditionally 2009. We had our introduction 2007 and we had our court wedding den too. however, we agreed to get married in US too as it was our parents wish, but in 2008 i got my e-passport as being married and when my hubby alerted me he filed for k1 visa, i had to go to d passport office and change back to my maiden name, he had to send a "to whom" to proved that it was his whole idea for me to change it not as a divorcee and a got a new one. I really want to no if the consulate would detect it and would it affect the all interview process and i hope it wont be counted as fraud attempt too.

Please help.

US will recognize the Nigerian court marriage. It is best for him to cancel the application for K1 visa, and file the IR1(spouse) one for you. Whether you have your passport in your married name or maiden name, it wont matter to the US officials, who will see it as you all being married. The embassy officials are trained to ask the right questions to detect fraud, and you never know if they'll pay a home visit, and ask questions around. Your hubby can still file the IR1 visa for you, and you can still get married in the US (celebrate occasion, and not court).

People at the embassy are fairly used to the local traditions. Are you saying you had a court and a traditional marriage a couple years apart ? The only problem a traditional marriage presents is that some may think the photos are a regular wedding party and not issue a K1. Many people in the US have "second" weddings that are unofficial , they call them reaffirmations. That would be an acceptable way to talk of the traditional wedding if it came after the court wedding. Call it a re affirmation ceramony.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.
