I'd say it depends on how you are going to cook said meat. Obviously you can't cook heavy metals out of meat, but as for certain bacteria you most certainly can get rid of them by cooking. Be careful of chicken though, make sure you wash your hands and surfaces properly after touching or preparing it. I don't know about bird flu, but salmonella and other yummy food poisoning causing bacteria really love chicken.
