Philippine Airlines offers a PALakbayan package to Puerto Princesa, Palawan. For P12,280/person at Dos Palmas Hotel, the package includes roundtrip airfare, hotel transfers, 2 nights accommodation, and full board. There are less expensive packages starting at P4,215 per person but the hotels are located in the city. Underground river tour is a must-see but it costs extra. Check out the links below.

If you want a more laid-back atmosphere, Seair flies directly to El Nido in Palawan (about 8 hours by land from Puerto Princesa).

These days, no place is safe anymore. Even America is not immune to terrorist attacks.

But there is a big difference in safety and security between going on vacation in Luzon regions vs deeper southern locations in the Phils.

Yeah Palawan is pretty well known for both NPA and MILF rebel activities. Not one of your safer places to visit in PI.

Very hot there also.

When I go back I plan to spend more time looking around Eastern Samar. Clear water and surfing in Guian :D Not to mention it's not too far south ;)

Isn't the Dos Palmas Resort where the American tourists were kidnapped by the A.S. in 2001? I'm not sure if I could really relax there.

I don't plan on getting kidnapped. I dye my hair black and wear big dark sunglasses when I go there! heheheh!

Wow Palawan is really one of my dream place to visit in the Philippines. I just love the beach. My co-worker went there 3 months ago and she told me there are lots of nice places to stay there and most of it are by the beach. The one that they checked-in (i forgot the name of the resort) it only cost P1,000 for a decent nipa hut house with a/c but the following night they moved in a cheaper one which only cost P300/night w/o a/c. She told me that a lot of foreigners would prefer to stay in those lil cheap nipa house co'z they can do more stuff than staying in a nice big fancy hotels where you are not allowed to grill or have a bone fire at the beach. For me that sounds more fun than staying in a big building. But it depends on you guys if you are the adventurous type. Hope you'll enjoy your stay there and have a safe trip!!!

I suggest you either go to Coron or El Nido if you want to be closer to the beach (their beach area is a lot better than Boracay) but the underground river tour in Puerto Princesa is worth going also. Should you decide to go to Puerto, you can stay in a hotel in the city and just go for a day tour in Dos Palmas. Their buffet lunch is just soooo good plus they have a nice beach area also. You should try going also to Ka Lui and Badjao Restaurants (both in Puerto), they offer really good dishes.

Just be careful and consider where you go for a vacation, that's all we are saying....

http://www.manilatimes.net/index.php/compo...-of-the-country

"There have been more massacres in Mindanao than in other parts of the Philippines.

Among the massacres are those perpetrated by the Abu Sayyaf.

The first Abu Sayyaf attack was on March 20, 2000. The Abu Sayyaf raided the predominantly Christian town of Tumahubong on the remote southern side of Basilan island, facing the island province of Sulu, and kidnapped 50, mostly Christian students, teachers, principals and priests from two schools (Muslim students were let go). The terrorists were apparently angry because the teachers had not paid their monthly “donations” to Abu Sayyaf. While waiting for ransom monies to arrive, Abu Sayyaf members made good on their promise to behead several male teachers and rape at least one woman.

A second Abu Sayyaf attack was on April 23, 2000 at the famous divers’ resort called Sipadan, located a few miles offshore from the northeastern tip of Borneo. Sipadan today is not even part of the Philippines; rather it belongs to the Malaysian State of Sabah. However, in the past, Sabah belonged to the Sulu Sultanate, a fact known by Galib Andang, a.k.a. Commander Robot, the 33-year-old Tausug from Jolo island who ran this particular hostage operation. He regaled the 23 kidnapped hotel guests with the usual Wahhabi vitriol about Western alcohol, sex, materialism, AIDS, greed and infidelity, which the Muslim terrorists did not want on “their islands.” Exquisitely skilled in rallying the media, Robot successfully upgraded himself and his group from the status of a local to an international-level Islamic Movement. This bravado means much to the Tausags.

A third Abu Sayyaf kidnapping occurred on May 28, 2001 at Dos Palmas (Two Palms) Island Resort at Honda Bay in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan island, Philippines. Approximately 20 male and female hostages were abducted and marched around the jungles of Basilan, some of them for over a year. One man was brutally beheaded when Abu Sayyaf terrorists perceived that ransoms weren’t being paid in a timely manner. Several women were taken as wives by their captors and one even became pregnant by Khaddafy Janjalani, which allowed her to leave the group and get medical treatment, much to her relief."

As I've posted before.

Catch22!

As long as the US keeps sending millions to GMA to fight the MILF there won't be an end to the fighting or will the MILF and NPA be "completely" defeated.
