It seems many of us on these forums have had no end of problems getting visas, citizenship for our spouses and more. Fortunately (or unfortunately) I'm familiar with the legislative process and know a couple of Congressional representatives. I intend to get an amendment or two into the upcoming immigration reform effort that is starting to make its way thru Congress. My story is we waited 11 months and 2 11 days for a K-1 visa. We still have the interview to go (whenever it gets scheduled) and I'm sure many of you reading this are going through worse. I'm asking you to post your story, at whatever point you are in the process, and I will contact you for any additional info needed. Maybe you'll end up testifying at a Congressional committee. The immigration system seems to be broken and needs to be fixed. Thank you for your time

It is (or can be) a difficult/lengthy process no doubt.

Just an FYI - might be appropriate for you to PM Ewok (VJ admin) to be sure it is OK to solicit VJ members.

**Moving topic to "General Immigration Related Discussion" where it may be more appropriate.

Read the entire thread "US Consulate in Guayaquil, Ecuador" in the Consulate forum here. Then, read the "Reviews: Embassy" for Ecuador, paying particular attention to the negative experiences. Many (most) (all?) of those members should be delighted to testify before Congress.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Only one way to describe what it must be like to go thru the US Consulate in Guayaquil, Ecuador...
Great picture. I actually agree most with what PDXBicycleBoy wrote: "being treated like a shoplifter who's returning stuff to the store that he stole from," or very simiar.

(I'm going for the IR-1 and blowing off the K-3. Even if it takes an extra couple months, it's worth it to not have to deal with USCIS again)

"Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Note:

Please fill out I-130, wait 6 months for approval, then 3 more months for an interview. (Unless of course we've bombed your country into the stone age, then you qualify for expedited processing.)

Welcome to the USA!!!

Our I-130 was filed in feb 2003 and wasn't approved until July 2005. My husband was in the middle of asylum proceedings when we got married, and his battle started in 2000. From the day I filed the I-130 until the day he had his green card in his hand was 7 years. In total, including the time before we were married, it took 9 years.

Thank you and I hope we can get some help from you.

After almsot a year in a half my husband finally had his CR1 interview in Accra Ghana on December 15 2009. They were just plain mean to him. They told him they knew our marriage was fake. Going on to say that I must have been paid to marry him. And evidently were sending it back to the USCIS for denail. They did not even look at our evidence. He even had a note from my medical doctor about my health. We have used that to get the NVC to rush the interview since Ghana is slow as snails. I am flyng to Ghana tommorrow to go the embassy they can arrest me or whatever but am not leaving until someone talks to me.

the process is slow for a reason, folks. too many people are applying for K1 visas without good cause. too many fraud cases are approved as it is.

this comment from a person who's K1 application required 16 months.

im sorry but we are going on three years now and i see no excuse for it to take this long and it is flat insulting to think that a couple that has been together for the last five years could be guilty of fraud
