Here is a question, will signing up on the USCIS web site for case updates give you any more information that putting your tracking number into the web site?

I am thinking of signing up for e-mail alerts on the USCIS's web site and I wondered what people experiences people have had with using this service.

Bottomline is it's not all that accurate at least it gives you something to do checking on touches!

There's no reason to not sign up, really. I got the first sign of my NOA2 through an email update, thanks to signing up for updates.

Plus, later, when you apply for AOS and have 3 cases to follow (potentially), you can keep everything in one spot without having to manually type the numbers in.

I'd recommend signing up - it can't hurt. The CRIS system isn't always accurate (or timely) with the email updates but it can come in handy.

Just an FYI - if you've filed (or are about to file) the I-751. The receipt/case number on the first NOA will not be the one you'll use to track your case online (or if you need to call) - the second NOA (which will be your Biometrics appointment notice) will have a new/unique receipt/case number on it, which is the one you'll use to track your case online. (Not sure why it is this way, but it is what it is.)

I have an online account at the moment from when I filed for the CR1, but cannot get in as I cannot remember my password. Also I cannot remember the answer to the question also . Is it possible to get the account reset somehow?

I forgot password and got new password recently.

On "Sigh-in" page on USCIS web site, there is a link Forgot Your User ID or Password ?

So, you can reset your password!!

I had signed up to check the first time what was happening with the case... I am curious too how is it working..seems like its no harm for the update...Its like subscribing to a thread... I am so nervous for the coming days.

Yea it is because I forgot about mine and so I created a new one (while waiting for the biometrics letter). Without realizing that my new account was with a joint e-mail account we have, I put in my personal e-mail, but had forgotten the password.

They sent me directions on how to create a new password and when I logged in I saw all of our other applications - for K1, AOS, the EAD, and now I added ROC. It's interesting to see all we've been through .
