Tahoma's favorite sentence is "Stop! Stop! Stop! ... What are you doing?" :D

We drive each other's crazy, but at the end of the day, we forgive and forget. :)

Funny but i AGREE. My fiance and I drove each other crazy too.

The first time he ever drove in the Phils, I was practically so scared(like holding on for my life). For me, his speed was quite fast. He was not scared even if cars would get so close to us in attempting to get in our lane. I could no longer remember how many cars got marks on their doors because of it.

He complained about most Filipino drivers. He was bitching about how discourteous Filipinos drivers are, having no tail lights at night, making a left turn from a right lane or right turn from a left lane, slow moving vehicles on a fast lane, turning without any signal at all and a lot more.

He is right about his complains. Most drivers here dont know what they are doing at all!!

After about a year of driving here in the Phils, he decided to teach me how to drive. It was melodramatic. He was yelling and I was ready to burst into tears and finally I said " I dont want to drive". No matter how much he prodded me to practice, I did not do it, so he gave up on me.

As soon as he left for the States, I enrolled in driving lessons.

When he came back here, he complained about my driving. He was there on the passenger seat barking orders. We were having fights that my kids said unless we settle the issue as to who will be the driver then they will not ride with us.

Then came the day that he was leaving for the States, and his flight was cancelled. He had no choice but to catch the flight in the next city which is abt 110 kms north from us. I told him that we will hire a driver but he insisted that I drive. I was crying coz it will be my first long distance drive with him, and 50% of the time will be on a steep road with cliff on the side.

I drove halfway to the airport and all the way back home. He said he was so proud of me!

It is easier to drive here in the US than in the Phils. In Seattle, most people follow the traffic rules, stay in their lanes, stop for pedestrians and respect each other.

When I first started driving, I tend to slow down on intersection and watch-out for oncoming cars. Tahoma patiently reminded me that I have the right-of-way so there is no need to slow down. Well, it must be a natural reaction for us who grew up in Phils and saw how people drive there, especially in Manila. I still have a lot to learn and I'm getting there ... just need more patience with each other. B)

I let my wife drive around the parking lot, and I had a freaking heart attack. I yelling STOP!! STOP.. and she is just busting up laughing.. My heart rate skip a bunch of times :D

then when she had her permit i let her drive to the post office and she goes around the conner too slow a 90 yr old man can walk faster then her. I told her to put some gas in to it and then next thing I know I am crossing the center divider and I am on the other side of the road.. Oh talk about having ####### in my pants  Just thank the Lord there were no cars there or I will for sure been in a crash. OR even a cop.. He would of see my face so white he would of not writen a ticket.. So I said.. Guess what you need more lessons and I am not teaching you..

Oh gosh.. and her ramming the curb at the mall..

Hubby taught me all the way..no shouting no yelling...been driving by myself for more than a year now and so far no accident..knock on wood.

My biggest achievements so far when it comes to driving is sending and picking up my husband from Tampa International Airport...did it 4times already. First time, I was shaking but the last two times, I was singing my life away.

I love driving in the US!

Omg thats awesome! When my fiance was here, I was his official Lady Chauffeur. I taught him how to drive manually but he complained how hard the steering wheel is, he never stopped murmuring about the narrow roads and insane traffic lights. He was laughing how most of the traffic lights in Cebu aren't working and why most cars pass over each other without observing proper speed limit. It was only when we visited my dad that my fiance was able to drive around since its an automatic SUV. We had to be discreet though, of course, because he has no drivers license in the Philippines.. LOL, it was really an adventure.

Bob I understand your fiancee just arrived in the US, how many days did it take to get her a driver's license?

Actually Anna & I have been married almost 10 months on the day she landed here.

The answer to your question varies based on which state you live in so I'll answer for Illinois: You must first have your SSN, birth certificate and proof of address (we used the Welcome Notice from USCIS). If you have these then you can get your Driver's License in one day if you're able to pass both the written exam and the road test.

I would imagine the SSN requirement is common for many states and that would mean K-1 (fiancee) would lengthen the time until you can get the license.

Thanks Bob. :) I guess it will take a while for me to get my drivers license since we are on K1. We are planning to get married on March if I pass my interview on January 19 (Pray for us!).

Congratulations Anna! :)

I remembered my husband would scream "You're gonna kill us both! You're gonna kill us both!! Slow down! Slow down! Lol. He's very nervous he quit! :bonk::devil: We ended up paying a driving instructor but I passed the first time I took the test so I guess it's worth it.

hahaha... this is always a funny story... husband teaching wife to drive...

in our case, we practice... we get home and we were not talking anymore...

I'm hoping to get my drivers license this coming year... I wasn't as prepared when I first took my first road test though the written test I aced out. It was actually a series of unfortunate events on that day, possibly cues on me not to take it that day. We were late on our appointment. My husband had to work and his ex wife had to drive me to there. Customer service in DMV didn't know what to do with my case.. My instinct told me not to do it, and i didn't listen. By the time it was my turn, i was already too psyched out... and it reflected. hahahaha...

Anyhooooo... I feel my husband is still nervous when i drive...

it's a lot of stress, to teach yer lass how to drive in yer car.

Suggest:

1. buy old volvo car (240/740)

2. pay for private driving lessons. USC not attend these. Ever.

3.. only she use the volvo, until the first wreck.

4. buy another old volvo, after the wreck, but now she drives your car half the time.

5. wreck the volvo again - now time to buy her BMW.

Good Luck ! This stress will kill the two of you.

The Big Darn gives some good advice, but this one is irrational.

The best advice is, let your wife learn to drive, but don't let her drive you crazy.

Oh @#$@#$ ;) ;)

Ya, Old Volvos Are Cheap. Insurance for Old Volvos even cheaper.

I'm only thinking of the frustration that comes about when the USC has his 2009 SUV t-boned whilst his lass is drivuing it, with a freshly minted drivers license.

Volvos are the safest car on the planet, everyone inside walks away (if wearing the seat belts) regardless of the crash type (OK - nosedive into a body of water excluded ) .

I think the frustration with teaching yer lass to drive is easily overcome by sending her to private driving school, instead. For many older USCs , with propensity for high blood pressure and clogged arteries, is not a cool situation to be teaching yer lass how to drive.

But hei - to each his/her own, right? My model costs less over time, you betcha, and SHE gets a nice BMW outta the deal - where's the pain ? :D
