More Montreal questions...

Okay, so we got approved yesterday. I've done some searching, but haven't really come up with anything (despite knowing there was a post somewhere that had this stuff in it...) so I thought I'd ask again, even if it sounds a bit like a broken record. I'm sorry.

1) We already know he has to send for his long form BC, and his police check -- we're assuming the police check will be okay to file for in January, even though we don't have an interview date yet. Is this correct?

2) What else should we gather now? I also know we need a ####### ton of passport pictures and such...

3) When it comes to Affidavit of Support, and I know this is a long shot, but does Montreal only allow USC co-sponsors, or could we use a Canadian one? (Like say, his parents, or even his own income, since he's lucky enough to have a job, and I've been looking - to no avail - since I moved back from schooling up there.. )

Thank you, in advance, for answering! I hope you all have a WONDERFUL holiday season!!!!!!

It's exciting to get your NOA2! Congratulations! Now, take a deep breath, and prepare to wait....

You're looking at months now to get a Montreal interview.

Okay, he's sent for his long form BC...good, he can get his police check if you want (don't get fingerprinting done unless he has a criminal record), you'll have some time to continue to look for a job...

He'll not send his BC or police check in at all. He'll bring that to the interview. Have you checked the Wiki guides to see what's in package 3?

That will tell him what to bring to the interview. Along with his passport photos and forms to fill out.

Whether Montreal or Vancouver, it's the US Consulate that looks at the Affadavit of Support. He'll need US co-sponsors if that's the case. You still may be able to get work, and make enough income, even if you've not worked a full year by the time the interview comes up. I don't know what his bank account has, or what assets he himself has, but that may span the difference you might need for sponsorship.

His working is not taken into consideration. They know he'll have to leave his employ to move to the US, and won't be working right away, so that's why they need to know how much you, or your co-sponsor can support him.

You're looking at an interview that is months and months away, so just keep plugging away at the job search! Best of luck!

Do you, the USC have family or a friend willing to co-sponsor?

Police check is good for 1 yr. merry xmas

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Congratulations!

1. For police check, it really depends on how fast it is. I was from Toronto and it took 2 weeks, but all I did was come in, give my name and ID and pay. It will likely be the same way where youre from and since the police record is good for a year, it might be just good to get it done and over with. But of course that is up to you!

2. For stuff to gather, it would likely be the items that you can bring as proof for the I-134, an updated fiance/fiancee letter of intent, and more proof of relationship. I dont think you can get a medical until you have P3, but it would be good to look at your immunization records to see if you are missing a vaccination as some of them need a waiting period to complete.

I would say hold off for the passport pics until closer to interview date because they have to be within 6 months and I am assuming people get their photos dated...? (I had to get a new set of photos bec Shoppers dated mine) If not, and your face hasnt changed, go collect them now! ;)

Essentially, the things they list for you to complete in P3 are the things you send back. I sent mine back according to how they wanted it, and wrote a cover page that listed what was included in the documents I sent. I brought the police checks, medical results, supporting documents for the I-134 and signed I-134, more proof of relationship (although they didnt even look for this anymore), passport pictures and payment to the interview.

3. Unfortunately, I think the proof of financial support needs to come from the US citizen, so if you need a US co-sponsor, you should get one :( From past threads, Ive read that they are stricter with co-sponsors than with the petitioner as the primary sponsor, and use the guidelines for financial support from AOS (I-864) rather than I-134.

Goodluck and happy holidays to you!

Finally married... and still married... ;)

Thank you, thank you! To save from going insane with the search function again:

For a co-sponsor, what do they need to provide? I have the instructions for the form, but the family member we've chosen likes having all the nitty gritty details before they sign anything (understandably...), and I know that while this one isn't legally binding, the one for AOS is, and we're probably going to be using the same person for AOS, etc, etc. Do they have to provide for every part of the income listing part - like the income, assets, etc, or can it just be here or there to get up to the comfort zone? Also, for my form, should I put in the fact that I "make money" on financial aid every semester? I know it doesn't count officially, but it would show something instead of making me look like I just sit at home and do nothing...

Why can't this all just be easy? :/

And seeing as I can't edit my post above, I have yet another question:

If they give us an interview date of, oh say, March or April, could we ask them for a date in late May or June instead? I plan on going, but I can't make it up there until the middle of May, but I didn't know if they would be willing to schedule it later if we asked. If things go well (and how we want them to...), we're hoping for a late May/June interview, and then he would just POE when he brings me home in August, and his parents will take his car back to Canada when they come down for the wedding....

Hi,

For the I-864, which you will use for AOS, they want proof that the sponsor can support the immigrant and their own family at 125% of the poverty guidelines. If that can be accomplished by showing employment earnings, then no need to include any asset information.

You can ask to be rescheduled but you are playing with fire, at least 2 on here had to wait several months to be rescheduled in Montreal, plus they are so backed up - it's just a not great idea.

 I think if they give us an earlier date, we will just take it and I'll figure out how to get up there! LOL. I'm not waiting! Thanks for the advice!!! :)

Remember, even if you have an earlier interview, you've got 6 months to activate the visa. You don't have to activate it right away.

It's not so much the entry date, etc.... it's that I'm wanting to spend summer vacation up there, which would require him coming and getting me -- which he wouldn't be able to do if we had an earlier date, and I'm also wanting to go to the interview with him, and don't finish with school until the second week of May. I know going with him isn't a requirement, but it's a moral support thing. I really, really don't want to fly, and if they schedule it sooner, I'll have to simply to make it back in time for school -- be it actual school or finals. :x
