I am the USC and my grandparents were quite concerned about it and discussed it with me at great length. Once he got over here and they have gotten to know him, they decided he was alright after all.

Only in passing/Hinted at to beware - by people I don't know/care about.

I don't care what people say.

Mostly from a couple of friends who worry about the cultural differences, different mindset, The major warning was about, Once you marry an Indian girl, it's all about you and her family, your friend, your family don't exist anymore, they can be very possessive, and so on but once everybody met my wife, it was only praises.

On the other side of the coin she was warned also from her friends and some folks about marrying someone from a different culture, leaving her safety zone to go all the way to the states, but Love can do wonder as it's going to be 5 years now

I am the foreign spouse and my parents did not want me to marry Daniel. He came to India 3 times and in 1 year and spent lots of time with them. Their blessings were very important to us even though I was living in England and my parents in New Delhi. Daniel is a very thoughtful and family oriented person. Now they think that they couldn't have found a better man for me :luv:

A former student of mine made a comment to me to be careful when I mentioned to someone in front of him that I had met a Brazilian guy (my husband and I hadn't been dating for more than 2 weeks at that time), but that's the only comment I remember.

I guess one person using someone for a GC can ruin it for everyone. After that ugly custody battle between the American man and his Brazilian wife, my husband made the comment that Brazil would be looked badly. Could be, but probably not.

We see how people ruin the immigration process for all of us couples in love. But we make it through....

My husband was strongly urged not to marry me, not to marry period. Some of the reasons were as hilarious and ridiculous as when my mother told me all men were scum who just want to get you pregnant and run. Basically, everyone over here liked my husband and strongly supported our engagement. Night and day, srsly.

I had a few ignorant relatives hint at things, but my husband is from the UK, so pretty sure he isn't after a gc... So I guess it was more me knowing they are dumb than not caring what they had to say. If he had been from a more worrying country or there had been more red flags, my answer might have been different.

USC.

Only seriously by one person.

I don't care what people say.

The only person I can think of who seriously lectured me about the issue was a lady I used to work with. She acted all sweet and normal about it for awhile, although I didn't even feel comfortable talking about it to people in the first place that I worked with. One day she flipped out on me and told me "you know how they are" about Indians. She said other rude stuff about "how he will expect you to wait on him hand and foot and you are already tired just from working a full time job", how sweet, huh? She had appointed herself an aunt figure in my life, I didn't really want that kind of relationship. She thought she was protecting me.

I'm sure people in my life who I wasn't as close to had thoughts about it, but never said it to me.
