USPS!!! WHAT THE FU... IS GOING ON???

Well... I used a flatrate envelope. The weight doesn't matter. You all probably know the commercials "if it fits it ships" on TV... so, postage is $4.95. The USPS clerk put a $4.95 stamp on it...

All very confusing.

And as per http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-751instr.pdf I am right and you are wrong. So? Let's face it, we both are right. USCIS is not a very competent organization.

However, I have seen street address and PO box on the same address many times. A lot of companies use this address format, and technically there is nothing wrong with that. Nevertheless, it is disturbing that even the government issues various addresses for the same facility.

You are absolutely right! The address is correct and that is where I sent it to.... something is very fishy here!

Hopefully you get it back and see what the deal is.

Although it is maybe a late advice, but you should've requested 2 or 3 original affidavit from your [friend/family/etc...] since problems like this occur and you get in the trouble.

Good luck

The USPS is hurting, they were 3 billion in the hole. I guess they aren't very efficient. Sometimes those online posts are screwy and then next thing you know the package is delivered. If not you should get it back in the next day or so. Did you sent it registered?

I'm really sorry you are having to go through this nonsense - and it is nonsense. You sent it to the correct address in a flat rate envelope that the USPS counter personnel themselves stamped. We had a problem with a mis-delivery a while back and got the local postmaster involved. We had no success with the USPS personnel we talked to until we got the postmaster involved. Then we got action, quick action - and at USPS expense. You have already made contact with your postmaster. When you get the package back, take it to the postmaster and have USPS correct their mistake. It should be at no charge to you. Right now, write a letter to the PostMaster detailing the situation, asking them to find your envelope asap and stating that since it is their error, that they be responsible for delivering it properly at their expense. Be sure to advise them that it contains time-sensitive legal documentation required by Department of Homeland Security and that your legal status in the US is dependent upon the timely receipt of this package - status that their failure to handle the package correctly has now compromised. I expect you will get the necessary action.

Good luck to you.

Okay.... here it goes:

I talked to the Postmaster in Vermont. It is back on the way to me, left their facility at 2:30 pm yesterday. Reason: not enough postage.

WHICH IS BS!!!! It is a flatrate letter envelope for $4,95, plus $0.70 for delivery confirmation. I went to a postal office in person and they gave me the exact stamp!!!

So... let us hope it will come back to me. And if it does: I will put ###### $50 in stamps on it... and they better deliver it. Freaking ideots.

I agree with the others, you should request they resend it. If it was flatrate and they messed it up, that is not your problem. Do you still have your receipt? Take that with you so there can be no doubt that they made the mistake there at the window. Also, since now they have held you up by and extra week (considering flat rate is supposed to be faster than the 5 days it has already taken, it will be more days till you get it back, and now it has to be resent) I would ask for a free upgrade for your trouble.

The USPS office nearest me is horrible. Complaint after complaint and they intentionally try to rip people off. They haven't had a postmaster for over 2 years and they get away with way too much, and they are the only post office in the whole city! I have had packages weighed at the window, gave them the zip code and they told me how much it would be only to go to the side and finish filling out my customs form for them to try to charge me triple. I'm a major pain in their a** when that happens and I don't let them get away with it, however I know some people never think to question it. When I mailed off my package to USCIS in Vermont, they sent it to the wrong state and it took it 8 days to get to the Vermont office. Maybe your post office just sucks like mine does. You can go online and file a complaint against them as well and they are required to follow up. I know this because I can drive across state lines, spend an extra 10 minutes to drive to a better post office and the postmaster there tells me everything. She is the one that told me about filing complaints and how they have to follow up.

To file a complaint visit www.usps.com and click on customer service and scroll to the bottom where it says this:

How do I file a complaint or get general assistance?

Actually, USCIS announced a change of address for Naturalization applications on December 17th. Applications will be automatically forwarded until January 31st after which time the Post Office will do the forwarding. There is a posting about the information in the US Citizenship forum.

Maybe somebody at USPS didn't like that you tried to stuff 160 pages into a flat rate box. :)

The good thing is you still have lot's of time to get it back to them.

Next time please utilize FedEx. Their the best.

I think it's a crapshoot no matter who you use. FEDEX has screwed up for me twice in the past.

I know some, including Oban now, have had problems with USPS, but I have always had good luck with USPS certified and delivery confirmation.

Hi Oban,

Although all of this is such a hassle, but I am glad to hear that you got your package back and it wasn't lost in the mail like once USPS did to me (nothing related to USCIS though). Was it just a matter of insufficient postage or something else?

Hi,

To all the people who are telling to use FedEx... let me make one thing clear FedEx does not deliver to P.O Box addresses. . Dakine your shipment got screwed up because you did not ask that whether the FedEx deliver P.O Box addresses. When sending important mail you always ask little questions..... That helps..sounds stupid though... I had been to one of the stores and they have a small sign which says and also on their Shipping forms that FedEx doesnt deliver PO Box addresses

You can ship it by USPS only.

The best way to ship it is Overnight Express Mail via USPS. I paid $28 .... i consider it spending on expensive dinner. So i dont have to worry. $30 is worth spending...we can earn in 2 hours back again.
