I hate cell phones, but I finally relented and bought one for the wife for Christmas. She now feels complete.

I have 4 under age kids and no cell phone. At times since we moved to the US i think it would be good if I had one but thats just cause every now and then I think of something that I could ask them such as hey does your siser have this game go check but don't tell her. Just that kinda thing.

Truth be told, since the birth of my child, I have not been apart from her except for a handful of occasions when she was with my sister or parents, or when I'm at work and she is at daycare. When I'm at work, I cannot answer my phone, but I leave it on silent and check it between classes. It would actually be faster for the daycare to call the front office at my school and have them call me on the intercom, and that is the first number they have for me on file. Actually, my cell phone is the last number they are instructed to call, after my parents' number.

I strongly believe that at least one parent should be available at all times, and if both parents are within a reasonable distance, there should be a way to contact both in case of an emergency. I can't imagine not wanting to be reachable in case of an emergency regarding my child.

I lived for a few months without a cell phone when we moved back to the US. Even though the cell phone is not really necessary to reach me regarding my child, because I have a child, I didn't want to be caught with a flat tire on a lonely road with my child in the back seat and not have access to a phone. That's primarily why I have one.

When she is a little older, I'm going to get her one of those fireflies.
