I'm a little sad at the moment...

A few weeks ago when Alli had her check-up at the dentist, he told me she had several baby teeth that should have fallen out and hadn't and that the adult teeth were starting to grow out despite it. He told me that if the baby teeth hadn't fallen out on their own within 3 weeks to a month, to come back so he could pull them. They had to come out to make room for those adult teeth.

Well, none of those baby teeth so much as got even a little loose, so off we went to the dentist yesterday, where my 10 year old little girl was a real trooper. In spite of the fact that these baby teeth were perfect and that my daughter has never had a single cavity, she had to experience getting her top AND bottom gums numbed and then needles of Novocaine injected into them. She only yelled once. Freaked me out when the dentist started pulling one after the other till there were SEVEN little baby teeth in the tray beside him. I hadn't realized she would have to have so many taken out. I'm thankful that because baby teeth don't have roots like adult teeth do, that it only took like 5 minutes in all once he started pulling them. Again...Alli was so brave.

Now, the reason I am sad...

The dentist asked if she wanted to keep the teeth and when she replied "Yes, because I want to find out if the tooth fairy still comes even if you have to have the baby teeth pulled!" (she doesn't really believe anymore I don't think, she just likes the money so goes along with it haha)he told her the hygienist would clean them up and put them in a container for her to take home. He then turned to me and said "And that's the last of them, she has no more baby teeth in her mouth to lose."

Then it hit me. Alli is my baby of my 3 kids. She's much younger than my 2 older children who are 23 and 18. I suppose I have been lucky to have been able to share the childhood fantasies with each of them such as the Tooth Fairy and Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny as long as I have as it is.

The Tooth Fairy almost went broke last night...lol. She figured that what that little girl went thru to have those teeth taken out and the fact that it was a LUMP PAYMENT for 7 teeth at once was worth a 20 dollar bill.

But damn...she cried too because she knew it was the very last visit she would ever pay to this child. :crying:

I hate it sometimes when your kids grow up....

Awww Sharon *hugs* I can't start to imagine how you feel.... I felt like that when I went home for the last time with my husband (then fiance) to visit my parents... We were sat on my bed and it just suddenly hit me... THIS WAS IT!

I hope you get to live with her the joys of life and the new adventures she'll get into!

Oh I feel for you.... I have a small mother of pearl box that contains both my childrens baby teeth... they are now 23 and 24 years old but those teeth are still so special to me....

One good thing about them growing up is you have your future grandchildren to look forward too...

I have a 4 year old grandaughter and she is just so special.....

That's so sweet Sharon. It just reminds me of what I have to look forward, too, and how fast time goes by. My babe has her two bottom front teeth coming in and I was just thinking about the next few years of the Tooth Fairy and the going rate on teeth. Do I have to factor in inflation?
