Unobtainable birth certificates

The applicant’s birth record may not be obtainable. Some reasons are listed below:

The applicant’s birth was never officially recorded.

The applicant’s birth records have been destroyed.

The appropriate government authority will not issue one.

Please obtain a certified statement from the appropriate government authority stating the reason the applicant’s birth record is not available. With the certified statement the applicant must submit secondary evidence. For example:

A baptismal certificate that contains the date and place of birth, as well as both parents names (providing the baptism took place shortly after birth)

An adoption decree for an adopted child

An affidavit from a close relative, preferably the applicant’s mother, stating the date and place of birth, both parents names, and the mother’s maiden name.

If you need more help let me know.

You don't have ages posted but if he was around during the civil war much of the country was disrupted during that time. Find a statement about the destruction of records and cities during the war and send that in. I know another member did that about some family birth records and was fine

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

It depends on where your husband is from becuase my husband was born in Abia State and he told me that he could go to the "High Court" and have them obtain a birth certificate for him. It can be costly but it would be official. Also there is a place in Lagos according to the NVC website that can issue birth certificates that the NVC will accept. So I guess the first question is where is your spouse located now in Nigeria?

If he does not have the original birth certificate issued at birth by the court, then he should go to national population census in lagos and confirm what the procedures are for getting another birth certificate. thats the only one nvc or the embassy will accept.

Good luck
