Both were stolen along with my keys phone and wallet. I had a look on the USCIS website and it says I'm going to have to pay $280+ for the EAD and $300+ for the Permanent Resident card. I have virtually no money as they managed to empty half my bank account.

Is there any way to not have to pay $600+? I seriously can't afford this.

Please help.

We are so sorry that some creep stole your valuable cards. It's really poses a dilemma for the immigrant to obey the letter of the law and carry these valuable cards in the wallet/purse at ALL times, or just during CRITICAL times when traveling or going thru expected immigration checkpoints.

Most friends I know just has his Pinay carry a COPY of the GC and EAD in her purse and keep the originals safe with the passports. Then, when traveling or going thru ICE checkpoints in San Onofre and such or traveling by plane or cruise ship, we carry the real deals. They are just like carrying HUNDREDS of DOLLARS on you.

Fact is, all the GC's, EAD's, VISAS, PASSPORTS are all computerized in sophisticated and cross-checking databases easily accessible even by mobile smart phones carried by ICE agents, and an immigrant's legal status is easily confirmed in seconds. I will have my girl carry copies on a casual basis, and then real cards when needed, and i wont worry for one minute about her swept up into a detention deportation camp.

Good luck to you, and I hope your cards are returned to you by some miracle. I wonder if USCIS /ICE has a lost and found return card service. Maybe another VJ'r can confirm this.

Maybe make an infopass appointment? Im not sure if they have a fee waiver for this or not and I couldnt find anything on the website. I think best bet is infopass and see what they say or what they can do.

If you're a Permanent Resident, you don't need an EAD anymore, so you won't need to pay to replace that, at least. Sorry that happened to you. :(

2005 - We met

2006 - Filed I-129F

2007 - K-1 issued, moved to US, completed AOS (a busy year, immigration-wise)

2009 - Conditions lifted

2010 - Will be naturalising. Buh-bye, USCIS! smile.png

You will only have to replace the green card. I believe that you will need a copy of a police report as well.

Sorry to hear the lousy news.

if your bank was involved for 'losing half your money' - then let them know - they have fraud units - you can recover most of what was taken out of your account.

IF cash, though, sorry..

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Agreed...most banks will work with you (fraud unit) if the money was removed from your account by theft...they usually ask for a police report...and as long as you abide by their terms and conditions...one being that you are not to have your PIN number written down in your wallet...which is one of the first questions they will ask you...

Hope you can recover some of the money...and like the others said...you no longer need your EAD once you receive your GC...

God luck
