SS Card Question

Hi everyone.

I'll be moving back to America on a K-1 visa at the end of this month.

I already have a SS# from when I lived here from 2001-2007, so my question is this: do you think I should just wait to go to the SS office to get a new card AFTER I've gotten my initial work permit through the AOS process, or after I get the actual GC itself?

It seems dumb to have to go twice, if I already have the number, right?

Thanks for your help!

they will not issue a replacement card unless you are able to demonstrate work authorization..

If you go when you have only EAD the card will come with "restricted" language on it which may be the same as you have now

If you go after green card then the "restrictive" language is removed

YMMV

Do you still have the SSN card? If you are female there will be I assume a name change after you marry. You are eligible for a replacement card based on your K-1 status and the card you are issued is the same type as you will be issued with an EAD card. If you don't have a card and/or there will be a name change I would apply based on your K-1 status.
