I will never forget when we just began to move from the big parking lot stage to the back road stage we would use the parking lots at our mall after they closed. There was a very back road that connected the mall and another shopping area that was perhaps a mile long or less. I would have her driving in the one parking lot and then go to the other and even with light traffic her going 3 miles an hour on that road would have irate drivers backed up a long way.

Now she drives like a Moscow Taxi Driver.

The other funny memory was when she took her test for the first time. Being a RW she wore high heels. Of course she could not drive in them so she planned to take them off to drive and take the test barefoot. We waited for the officer that would administer the test. He got in the car with her and went totally ballistic. He stormed out of the car, went in the offices for 15 minutes and came out with a sheepish look on his face. He had looked through all the PA driving laws and could not find one that made it illegal to drive barefoot although he expected to. He did let her take the test and the next time she took it she wore sneakers.

My wife will not go over 55.

I don't think I've ridden with her driving since she's had her license, so maybe she does when I'm not looking. I know whenever I drive her car though she's always yelling at me "you know you now near 80? You drive my car way too fast. She doesn't know more than 55... maybe 60. Don't beat her."

Slim, we can call Sammy and ask him to change the lyrics and say, "I CAN drive 55."

My wife is still learning. I've been teaching her myself. She passed the written test without any problem after studying the website for a while. She has a drive test coming up next week.

On the subject of insurance, you can get it to drop as soon as you get married. For early 20's males, the drop is huge. I was 22 and getting married shaved over $100/month. It doesn't matter whether or not your wife drives. Getting married just puts you in a much more responsible category of driver statistically. If you haven't changed your marital status with your insurance company until you add your wife, you were just paying extra for a while. The new driver expense is offset by the marriage discount. So, if you get married but your spouse won't be driving for a while, call your insurance company and you can save a large chunk of change.

I imagine my insurance will go up significantly when I add my wife. Currently she is covered with a learner's permit under my policy.

UPDATE - She told me yesterday she now drives "up to" 65, but never more.

I don't recommend getting married just to save money on insurance. That's like having kids to save money on taxes. No matter how you work it, you still get the short end of the deal.

Don't expect it to go up too much, I added my wife and her brand new car (full coverage) and it went up around $30/month.

The question is, before you added your wife, were you listed as single or married on your auto insurance? If you were listed as single, then you insurance went down a lot for you getting married and up a little more for adding your wife for a small net increase. If you were already listed as married and your insurance only increased by $30/month I would be surprised.
