Would be more appropriate to ask, what is the most nauseating movie you have ever watched. Plenty of those out today. Scary movies aren't really scary at all if you favor the villain.

I don't watch horror movies very much, not really my genre.

I've always liked The Shining though. Kubrick really mastered the art of suspense there.

I'm also fond of old Hitchcock movies - they're good for suspense, not really horror flicks though. Certainly not by today's standards.

I have to say, while not particularly frightening when being watched, Nightmare on Elm Street movies, because I always wind up having a Freddy dream after watching one.

I don't know about scary, but Pan's Labyrinth and The Orphanage certainly rack up the suspense WITHOUT the need for the gratuitous violence often shown in movies like Saw etc.
