Have to agree. No Money, No honey.

Hopefully USCIS will disallow all co sponsors in the future.

We have enough people on welfare as it is. No need to import more.

That's like USCIS telling you to notify them of a address change if you didn't receive this notice! :bonk:

YOU KNOW THATS A REAL HATEFUL THING TO SAY, AND I CAN FEEL SOME OF WHAT YOUR SAYING BUT, DAMM THATS COLD! JUST BECAUSE SOMEONE GETS A CO SPONSOR DOESNT MEAN THE IMMIGRANT WILL BE ON WELFARE,, GEEESH!!! SOME PEOPLE MISS THE 125% BUY JUST LITTLE INCOME AND NEED THE CO SPONSOR, SOME ARE JUST ABOVE IT. SO UR SAYING ONLY THE PEOPLE WHO WERE LUCKY ENOUGH TO KEEP THAT GREAT JOB SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO HAVE THIER FAMILY HERE???YOU KNOW MY HUSBAND WHOS WAITING FOR THE VISA MANAGED TO SELL OUR PROPERTYS IN HIS COUNTRY SO I COULD GET A HOME AND GET OUT OF THE WELFARE THING BUT SINCE I LOST MY JOB WITH FBOP,,I HAD TO GET WELFARE TO TIE ME OVER AND THEREFORE HIT ME UNDER THIS 125% SOOOO UR SAYING THAT SINCE I WORKED MY TAIL OFF ALL THESE YEARS AND THEN SO HAPPEN TO LOOSE A FABULOUS JOB THAT I SHOULD NOT BE WITH MY HUSBAND??? THERES SO MANY DIFFERENT REASONS WHY A CO SPONOSR IS NEEDED THATS WHY LAWS SHOULD BE MADE CAREFULLY AND THOUGHT OUT, NOT JUST ON THE THOUGHT OF URS. IF THEY PASS THIS LAW OF NOT ALLOWING CO SPONSORS,, LETS JUST PRAY U DONT LOOSE UR CUSHY JOB AND WANT TO BRING ANOTHER RELATIVE IN THE FUTURE, CAUSE THEY WILL SAY OH SORRY ,, GOOD GRIEF!!!!!!!!1

I hear ya, that some people fall on hard times AFTER they start the process. That is different than meeting someone online while you are on foodstamps/welfare or whatever else to feed your children but then managing to save the THOUSANDS of dollars it takes to fly overseas and marry someone, subsequently bring them over here and try to support another person when you cant even support your own family without assistance from MY tax dollars... that, I have a problem with. Do you know how many months I could feed my 6yo with 1500 bucks(example price for a RT tic to most places half way accross the globe)?

Im sorry and I hate to think that someone would miss out on love because they are in a financial bind but the bottomline is if its love it can wait until its the right time. If you cant feed your children and need gov monies to support yourself, I'd say its not the right time.... Sorry in advance if my opinions hurt feelings but I feel pretty strongly about this subject.

I do have a nice job and dont have to struggle but i didnt just happen to have thousands lying around for plane tickets when I went to get married either.. and I certainly wouldnt have taken food out of my sons mouth to fly to Jordan...

God forbid if any of us lose our jobs tomorrow I would like to think that you(being anyone) would rather wait to petition for a spouse to come over and add to the burden rather than use tax dollars so you can bring someone over here. or why not go live over there instead?

In your case, your husband sold the properties to get you off of welfare and now you lost your job so its back to square one minus the assets that you did have in those properties that could have been a good back up source of income in case of emergency... I think that is a good example that people should wait until the time is right and being in a good position to petition a spouse/family member.

If you were lucky and got an approval and reunion with your loved one rather quickly; Please refrain from telling people who waited 6+ months just to get out of a service center to "chill out" or to "stop whining" It's insensitive, and unecessary. Once you walk a mile in their shoes you will understand and be heard.

Thanks!

I don't know what to say except  You can't presume to know everything about everyone's situation. Even if someone is receiving food stamps when their SO arrives in the US, who is saying that the SO will be receiving those benefits? Who says that someone who is receiving welfare is paying for their tickets, or for the fees associated with immigration? What if the foreign SO moving to the US will actually enable the recipient of welfare to move off of welfare? Not to mention the fallacy of assuming that everyone who has a cosponsor is on welfare/food stamps/etc.

I'm really trying to figure out how to say this. If you can't afford the fees, you really can't afford to support another person in your household. No judgement on welfare, foodstamps or anything else. An immigrant comes here with what's in their suitcases. They need to be insured, fed, clothes, and integrated into the society, all of which costs money. Most of the time, that burden falls on the US citizen. If the US citizen has trouble making ends meet before the immigrant comes, how much worse will it be when they arrive?

AbuS didn't work for a very long time after he arrived. Sure, he kept busy, applied for jobs, volunteered, interned, studied for his auditor exam, but not a lotta money coming in from him. It was all on me to support us financially. If I didn't make above the poverty line, I honestly don't know what we would have done. These last few years have been increadibly difficult as it is. I can't imagine how much worse it would have been had we been struggling financially. I don't think all the love in the world would have kept our marriage together through that.

Im not saying that the immigrant will receive benefits and thats what the AOS if for anyway, to ensure that they dont.

My basic point is, how can you support a new person in the household if you are already in need of public assistance? That is the bottomline, how can you afford one more person when you cant afford the people you are already responsible for.

Im not presumming anything I am using logic. Its logical to assume that if someone is already finacially struggling that they will not magically be able to support one more person in their household.

Unless the immigrant comes with boatloads of money when they arrive; and if thats the case then the USC spouse should not be struggling while waiting for the immigrant to arrive as the spouse shouldnt allow their wife to struggle if they have enough to take care of themselves when they arrive to the US for a while.

Someone with not enough income to support their family...yet they have travelled around the world and are managing to pay visa fees, long distance phone bills, and all of the other expenses that incur through this process BEFORE the SO even gets here......how is that?

IF the SO has paid for all of the airfare, fees and long distance phone bills/calling cards then they should try to supplement the USC's income. I dont know many beneficiaries here who are in a position to pay for everything. period. That leaves some of the bill to the USC.

If you can survive and get by in the mean time while waiting and before the SO gets a job.. awesome! If you cant then it might be time to replan for your both of your guys' benefit. As I said before.. finacial difficulties can cause a traditional marriage problems, how about one like the people here?

oh, I never said that everyone with a cosponsor was on welfare, so i dont know where you got that presumption.

I was addressing the fact that if someone doesnt make enough to pay for themselves and their children if they have them, they most likely will not be able to support another adult for an unknown amount of time. Then welfare was brought into the convo.

If you are on welfare and spending money on this process, well thats just plain wrong in my opinion. Government assistance is there to help families get by in hard times not supplement their income so they can take time off work and fly around the world and bring another dependent into their household.

Having a cosponsor is not a big deal if you are doing fine and able to support your family and another person.

My advise would be to get the finances straightened out before starting, thats all.

well and my rant about welfare and this process

Heres how i think of it.

It's like me saying.. can i please have 1000 dollars? i cant pay my rent this month. If you dont give it to me im going to be evicted :(

You give me the 1000 and i use it for a shopping spree that weekend and just use the money i made at work myself to pay my rent. see how that looks?

sqeakster's mom has said it simple and plain, unlike my endless ranting lol Her story is not unusual either in that many SO's dont get work right away and the burden of carrying the household is on the USC.

i think that you were missing the point in my situation, first when i said i lost my fabulous job and went on welfare im talking about houseing welfare, second it was my husband who paid for all my travels. i work in my home doing pc repair. which now with us owning our home my job takes care of me and the kids good, but it still hits just below the requirement needed for sponsoring,i do not recieve cash assistance or food stamps, but my income does not meet the requirement either, and like what was mentioned, every case is different,im now a homeowner, so thats what i mean about getting off welfare cause im not in public houseing,i work at home till i can get another job with fbop, and my husband has money in the bank to support himself till he finds work orrr maybe we can invest it in a small buisness since i do computer repair and his work is management informations system, which is also in the line of computer work,i refuse to live in egypt due to my health and my childrens education, plus the culture would be to much for them,. they liked it when they visited there but they wanted to be home with thier family and thier friends, only thing im saying is by taking and saying absolutely no way anyone is comming to usa if they have a co sponsor is denying ppl who do have money and the potential of making a great life here a chance to do that, didnt mean to ruffle any tail feathers and if i did im truely sorry,

Im not the one who said that cosponsors should be eliminated, that was another poster.

If you read it again,I said: "Having a cosponsor is not a big deal if you are doing fine and able to support your family and another person." My beef is not with cosponsors in general.

No biggie Aisha. I didnt mean to hurt any feelings at all. you cant help that my tail feathers get ruffled about a subject, its not a personal :)

ok, sorry to the OP that I kept hijacking the thread
