Hi all,

Thanks so much for everyones help here.

To get my police records for the CR-1 for DCF, I need to get a criminal record report from Canada to give to the US. It apparently takes about 120 days, but I am hoping to be leaving Japan before then. Is it possible at all if we get accepted for the I-130 and then apply for the Cr-1 to move to america before my police records arrive? Also, If I am already granted an interview, can I travel abroad while we wait for the next step?

You can apply for your police certificate in advance and apply for your visa but your visa will not be granted until they receive & review your police certificate

If you've been in Japan for more than 6 months, you'll need a police certifcate from the Japanese Police Department. Get that now, before you go.

As for Canadian stuff - ask the Canada Consulate in Japan - they can help you, as a Canadian living abroad.

The CR-1 Visa is granted at the Embassy , the end-result of an I-130 petition filed on your behalf, by the USC Spouse.

There is no 'apply for CR-1' if you've already DCF'd an I-130.

After the interview, you have to wait a few days for the visa to be applied INSIDE the passport. You have 6 months to arrive in the USA (I THINK?) But then once you are entered into the USA, you get a I-551 stamp in passport, which literally allows you to leave USA the same day you arrive.

final thought.

If you don't have all of the police certificates on interview day, expect a 221(g) (blue slip ) - you have to submit the evidence they ask for, in the manner they ask for, on that 221(g) form.

Should not be an issue, just some delay in issuing the visa - the Embassy will wait until you have all documents before issuing it.

If you think it is a larger issue, you can find out more about when the Police certificates wil be in your hand, then reschedule the INTERVIEW with the Embassy to be after that 'document arrival date' .

Good Luck !
