Received Permanent Resident Status card without having an interview...

Hey guys,

I am a bit flabbergasted...

I filed for AOS in September of 2005. Just a few weeks ago I received word that our case has been forwarded to California (we filed in NY).

We are in San Diego for business and my mother in law called to tell me that a letter from Immigration and Homeland Security arrived in the mail.

I was assuming that it was an interview date but instead it was a letter saying: Welcome to America, we are happy to inform you that you are given Permanent Resident Status.

And also another letter containing my Permanent Resident Card...

WHAT??? I was so confused! Aren't I supposed to have an interview first?????

Has anyone heard of this? Or experienced this???

Its been happening quite frequently recently. It appears that USCIS has decided a good way to clear the backlog is to go this route. Good news for those who get it. My fingers are firmly crossed right now.
