I just wanted to double check that there is no problem applying for the SSN after getting married, right? As long as it is still within the validity of the 1-94, correct? I am asking because my fiance entered the states Dec 17, 2009 and we are planning on getting married on Dec 27th, 2009 which does not leave us 2 weeks to make sure that his 1-94 is in the system if we need to apply before we get married.

Has anyone had any problems getting a SSN once they were married but not because their 1-94 had run out?

Thanks for the help!

most are because of the name change on a fiancee versus a fiance... a few because the SSA thinks the K-1 becomes K-3 after marriage and does not understand immigration processes

YMMV

We got the SSN after marriage. You don't have to show the marriage certificate to get an SSN, and since they have to match you up with the name you had when you entered, it's a bit too much for "the system" to handle a request for a new one simultaneous for a name change. When we went to get Nik's, they didn't even ask if we were married yet.
