Most of those fatalities were on the Seward Highway....during this summer. People feel the need to pass on that highway no matter what the cost. I'm sure you already know this though seeing how we both live in Alaska. tbh I haven't seen these crappy highways that's in that report. Seward highway is decent enough as long as you don't try to pass on corners, or when there's on coming traffic....or even better yet when these idiots try to pass several cars/trucks/motor homes/r-v's/etc.... The Glen highway is decent enough, can't really see too much problems with the Parks other than the bottle neck from Wasilla to Big Lake. And yes we do have frost heaves up here.
Doesn't matter what the excuses are. It's the results that matter. The problem with Seward Highway is it is not designed for the load it carries, plain and simple. But the bigger problem is the simple lack of a road network. In most places, you can go north and south, or east and west, by a single route. That's it! If that route is cut, then you're cut off! There is no alternative route. That fact alone is what gives us the world road system in America. Of course - that assumes you're even ACCESSIBLE by road - which, as you know - is a BIG "if" in Alaska.

In short, the morons have been able to out-breed the intelligent imo. Rather than "the strong surviving" as nature would normally have it, the moron-leaders do everything they can to propogate the morons since they will continue to elect them. Sadly, I think we're on a sinking ship at this point.

Kind of funny how those who realize they can't afford proper care for children seem to not have as many. Those who know they can't afford them tend to have way too many kids... that the rest of us pay for. Broken system, you betcha!

Stupid Americans, on the other hand, stay in their own home towns all their life, and think going overseas means going to a Western style resort in Acapulco. They think they are worldly travelers because they once went to the Canadian side of Niagara for their cousin's wedding.

My wife was shocked when most of the people she'd met here hadn't been anywhere else. Oh, they've been to Gatlinburg or Florida, but never somewhere exotic like Acapulco.

I don't get it either, especially how they've never travelled but are still "experts" when it comes to foreign-policy and international affairs.

For instance, peanut butter. I really thought she would love it, but she could care less.

More astonishing, she hates pancakes and maple syrup! What?? How is this possible? She not only dislikes it, but seems offended by the taste and smell of the syrup. Has this happened to anyone else, or is it just my crazy wife??

My wife hates the smell and taste of peanut butter, but loves pancakes and syrup. Maybe they're both crazy.

Movie theatres (especially the IMAX we saw Batman in)

My wife asked where the "kissing seats" were. Apparently where she's from they have love seats in the theater in little private sections where you can be privately intimate if you so desire. Nope, nothing like that here. Well, at least not at regular theaters, anyway!

she was surprised how ugly and poorly dressed Americans are. Both men and women.

My wife HATES fashion in America. She was also astonished by how fat everyone is. Men and women.

if you really want to get her going, talk about the medical profession. She thinks the costs are outrageous, the system of going to a doctor to get a referral for some type of specialist and seeing a doctor for five minutes and getting a bill for $75 is horrible. She has a term for the medical profession in America. Mafia!

My wife is planning a trip back to Russia just so she can get some proper medical care. "Yes of course I want see my mother and everyone... but really I want to see good doctor, blat."

Last night, while post Christmas shopping, drove by Hollywood Blvd, a cinema in the western Chicago suburbs. Except for select matinees, NO CHILDREN LLOWED !!!

Nice high back leather seats and built-in tables for each, with excellent food and drinks service before and during the movie. Prices are quite reasonable and the experience is perfect.

And if you talk or your cell phone goes off, they will escort you out.

Phil (Lockport, near Chicago) and Alla (Lobnya, near Moscow)

As of Dec 7, 2009, now Zero miles apart (literally)!
