Ok let us put aside those questions like "why do yada yada marry yada yada from yada yada country". It is really getting old and it is dividing the people in here whereas we're are supposed to be supporting each other because we are all in same boat...we want to be together with our love ones in the US and it's none of our business to question them why do they marry that person. (period)

Anyway, this is going to be my first Christmas here in the US and my first Christmas together with my husband. I wonder how are you guys are going to celebrate this Christmas with your husband/wife. Do you have any romantic plan or ideas that you could share? Few more days to go and I still have no idea how and where are we gonna celebrate our Christmas. My typical Christmas in the Philippines...my family and I will prepare a dinner @ 12MN on the 24th/ 12AM on 25th and my Dad will read the Bible and say a prayer and then we will eat and sing in karaoke and bring food to the neighbor and you will get something in return too. So I wonder, maybe i could get some ideas from you guys on how are we going to celebrate our first Christmas together. Btw, my husband is not so close with his family so I am not sure if we're going to celebrate with them...so maybe it is just going to be me and my husband...and the baby inside my womb :D

PS - your wedding video was great - hubby looks better without the beard (I had a beard for YEARS when I was 20-40 because without one it made me look too young).

I'm not as religious as you but the way your family spends Xmas in PI sounds wonderful. That's the real meaning of Christmas.

My fiancée will have her retirement party on Christmas in Bangkok and I'll be thinking of her.

We will get married hopefully before Jan 1 (POE on Dec 30).

i don't know if she is up for New Year's Eve in TIMES SQUARE (with the jet lag) on her wedding day.

My fiancé and I will be in Brazil. It's been nearly 7mo since we've seen each other, so we've got a pretty laid back Christmas planned hanging out in the apartment we rented. Might amble down to the beach.

It's a great change from the frozen tundra here!

Thank you. I know and I keep telling him that but Im kinda tired of reminding him to shave coz he thought i am constantly nagging. LOL Maybe he's planning to play Santa this Christmas and surprise me thats why he's growing some beard

Thank you guys for sharing your plans and those funny response. If only we have money right now, I would want us to go on a trip somewhere to celebrate Christmas...but since I am pregnant and it is really expensive to get preggy here it is not a good choice to spend money this season. I was thinking, maybe I will do the same thing that we do in the Phils. It is a family tradition that I want to continue to my new family now. I will see if i can convince my husband to go to church too :D so goodluck to me! I am kinda sad coz back in the Philippines, every year i always throw a party for the kids in our neighborhood and they are always looking forward for that...but now that I am here, I wonder how the kids would feel now. :(

Oh yea, I am excited to see/hear fireworks/firecrackers this Christmas too because it has been banned in our city for long time...although I like it coz i dont have to worry walking on the street while somebody throw a firecrackers infront of you...freaks me out! Well I miss it though :)

Well I wish you all to have a merry Christmas...have fun, be safe, share some love and don't forget the reason why we celebrate. :) God bless you all!

The desert botanical gardens (also where we had one of our first dates, and where we got married!) has an event called las Nochas de las Luminarias - They line all the paths with luminarias (duh) and they have musicians and story tellers and carolers and hot cocoa - you walk around in the evening and enjoy.

I'm sure there are events like that in every city if you two want to start your own tradition for a nice holiday date night. :)

For more general american traditions: My mother usually makes or buys some sort of gift for the neighbors - a jar of nice nuts, or a plate of cookies. This year she made mulled wine and mulled cider, bottled them and put a nice ribbon/tag on. We deliver things early because many families go out of town. I don't do anything like that for my neighbors, but mostly because unlike Mother's, mine won't talk to me, despite more than one invitation when I moved in (jerks :ranting:).

We usually have Turkey and Ham, one on xmas eve, one on xmas day, and I like custard and sweet bread for breakfast. Due to family circumstances we are usually at my parents' house, and others come to eat with us, and my one aunt and her husband stay. I think sometimes they like to come to stay for a few weeks because it's sunny and warm in AZ and cold and dreary in Chicago!

This year being Nik's first Christmas in the US, I think we will stick to many of my family's traditions (we did it his way at his family's last year), but incorporate some of his as is appropriate - like Crackers!!ChristmasCrackers_2.jpg If we were to spend many xmases one place or the other we might try more blending, but I see things being fairly evenly distributed for some time. :)

We are not Christian but I love celebration of any kind. I have missed all my other festivities this year, but I am in a good mood for Christmas. My husband is kind of a hermit, so he doesn't really celebrate anything, but I know he will put up with me if I do a few things.

Soooo, I got some bells to hang on the doors, got a few knick knacks to put around the house, will make a nice meal for the day and will have loads of eggnog with whiskey :luv: cuddle up, watch some movies together.

I wish your mother and I are neighbors...it would be cool :D hehe...that's a nice way to celebrate Christmas...basically it's about sharing. :)

We're hoping somebody will invite us over so we can eat all we want for free. At least, that's my Christmas wish this year.

On this Christmas my GF has decided for Yosemite I don't have any idea regarding the place nor anything.

Sounds awesome. I've never been but have heard a lot about it and it sounds very cool.

Yosemite is awesome! Definitely a place you should go to at least once :)

We don't have romantic plans as such; our Christmas tradtions center around church services. We have Christmas Eve service with readings and carols. I'm in the choir, and we're doing a lot great pieces. When we get home, we put up the tree; we make a distinction between Advent and Christmas, and don't actually start Christmas things till Christmas Eve. We have another service on Christmas Morning. After service, we go to my sister's house for dinner and gift exchanging.

That's a very nice way to celebrate Christmas. It is one thing I miss in the Philippines. Since I was in high school I always attend the 9 days Dawn Mass before Christmas. It is a big Catholic Tradition in the Philippines where people go to church as early as 4AM for 9 straight days before Christmas (Dec 16-24). There is also a saying that if you complete the nine morning Mass your wish will be granted. So far, all my wishes and petitions were granted. :) It is really cool to see the church so packed of people that some are already standing outside. Im always unlucky in getting a seat co'z most of the people who got their seats has been there as early as 3AM :D

We celebrate on the 24th. We have Schnitzel Holstein, which is schnitzel, on a fried egg, on toast. On top of all that is a pineapple ring, a peach half and a cherry on top! Then we go to mass at 7 pm, come home and open gifts.

This year we are going to Victoria, BC for New Year's weekend to spend 3 days at the Empress Hotel. We've not had a mini break alone since before we got married!

My family normally celebrates on the eve but this yr my hubby arrives at airport the 24th. So my plan is to dress up. Make a nice candlelit dinner for him and spend the night together. In the moring the kids will come home and we will open presents and stockings and I'll make a feast. Then we will o visit family and after dark we will take a drive and see the pretty holiday lights and have hot cocoa.

It doesnt need to be fancy. Create your own family traditions with your new famly. For ex I began getting each of my children (and now my husband) a new Hallmark ornament for the tree every yr sicne they were born. It's a tradition and gives us some treasured keepsakes too.

Even if he isnt close to his family what better time than Christmas to extend peace. Invite them for coffee and dessert and if they decline at least you made an effort. It would be a shame they dont resolve thier differences before the baby comes.

Good luck. :innocent:

We have had crackers but they make such a mess! Confetti everywhere. I decided to skip them this yr and I dont think my hubby will shed too many tears over it. My son might tho! lol
