My wife just got her green card on Dec. 15th. We want to fly to the RP a few days after Christmas. Of course her green card has her new married name, and her passport has her old maiden name. Will this be an issue when flying? She will probablly stay a little over a month, because she is 9 weeks pregnant and is really craving the Filipino foods...so I told her she could stay until week 20 if she wanted. My next question is, if flying there isn't an issue? Once she gets there can she just redo her passport while in the RP and get the name changed? I know she can send it off to the consulate in L.A. but we wanted to leave sooner than time allows us to do it that way. I guess my major concern is her getting stuck in the RP, even though she has her greencard.

Thanks,

Wyatt

I will move this to another forum, if I don't get a good answer. Just thought I would try here first.

There should'nt be any problem. When i went home last year ,my green card was in my married name and my passport was in my single name. Never had an issue.

Airport reps (TSA/check-in) prefer for ticket and passport to have matching names but they're not very strict. Your wife will need to carry with her the marriage contract in case of problem. When I travelled in July/August, I called the airline to make sure they put both my married and maiden name in the computer reservation, just in case.

She "May" have to do CFO again if she try's to change her name in her passport in PI. I'm not sure on that tho since I imagine she's done CFO once already

Or she can apply for a new passport (with her married name) when she gets back from PI. or she can have her passport ammended first.

No need, she's already a green card holder. Just bring the old passport and the green certificate.

Your information is not correct starting Jan 1, 2010.

My wife just flew out this month, and was told the ticket needs to match the Passport Name starting Jan 1st.

It's exactly what I said, ticket and passport need to match, although they were not strict. The info I provided was correct.

If they are going to start to implement the rule strictly, then January 1, 2010 is the day they start it.

Thanks for the replies. I will be sure to get her ticket with her maiden name, so there will be less confusion. We will also bring a certified copy of our marriage certificate. She plans on trying to get a new passport with her new last name while in the RP, I will post up how that goes at the DFA.

I am not sure of the requirements to get a new passport but to amend one you have to go to the Philippines Embassy web site and complete the "Report of Marriage Contracted Abroad" and this has to be processed by the embassy counslar they then send copies to DFA and CFO. This has to be done or when you go to DFA in the Phils and they check the records, if this does not show up you will be denied amendment until you process the Report of marriage. This can be done by mail or in person at any Philippine Embassy in the USA. My wife has already processed the Report Of Marriage form through the Philippine Embassy and we are going to the Philippine Embassy next month or in Februaryto get her passport ammended. We do not want to wait until we get to the Phils and encounter any delays or long lines at DFA in Manila and waste our vacation time in Manila making trips and standing in line at DFA or CFO. Our vacation will not be in Manila or anywhere in Luzon.

Thanks for the info. I didn't know about this. I was naively thinking she could report her marriage in the RP at the NSO. Then we could proceed to the DFA once it was recorded. It amazes me that the CFO could be involved in any way, since she has already left the country and is returning with permanent residence from that country. Your right this sounds like it could eat up some time if doing while in the RP or more importantly cause serious frustration for a Kano hahaha... We where going to try and do it while in Cebu which can even add more frustration on certain things.

Thanks again,

Wyatt

We sent our Report of Marriage and Passport Amendment form for my wife to the Philippine Consulate in San Francisco on December 8th, and received her amended passport back yesterday. Pretty quick turnaround considering 3 days transit time on each end for Express Mail. I was expecting a new data page in her passport with her married name, but all they do is stamp the back of the data page and handwrite in the married name. That is for the new brown machine-readable passport. If you have the green one it has to go back to the Philippines to have a new passport printed, which probably takes much longer.
