In UN happiness surveys, Nigeria always comes out #1.

Happiness isn't everything, money is.

are you channeling mawilson today?

Well, I was serious about the first part. Happiness isn't everything. Happy but stupid is no way to go through life.

As for the second part, money is a lot but not everything.

No one thing is everything. Everything is everything.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

After all --- it is all about football.....

Yup. At least in our house. And, by the look of it, in NO.

. . . . .

The day of a big Saints game in New Orleans often feels like a holiday, with barely any work getting done.

On Monday, with the Saints' biggest game in three seasons on deck, the city essentially made the holiday official.

The City Hall and other city offices located on Poydras St. near the Superdome will close early at 3 P.M. because of pregame preparations and anticipated traffic. Emergency services will continue to be provided.

There are plenty of great football towns, but the celebratory buildup to a big Saints game that envelops the entire city is unique. And a lot of fun. (Green Bay has to be the most similar.)

If the Saints make the Super Bowl, City Hall may have to shut down for a week.

. . . . .

so true!

ETA: One of the things I remember clearly when I moved from NO to Dallas was that the people in Dallas were much more...oohhh... defensive? get offended very easily. I can totally see why LA would rank as one of the happiest states even though it's one of the crappiest. :P

1. Louisiana

They must not have included New Orleans which doesn't have good schools or low crime.

New Orleans is not a state..its part of Louisiana...

I'm thinking he/she meant that they didn't survey people from NO but from all OTHER PARTS of LA.

You can't cite international UN surveys, without citing the famous ex-VJer who is the Officially Designated Citer of UN Surveys (ODCUS).

I'm living in New York and loving it. But I'm upstate, and NYC pretty much dominates any statistics about the state.

How did they measure happiness anyways?

Well of course Louisiana is on top ... the Saints are 13-0, and set to clobber Dallas on Saturday night!

After all --- it is all about football.....

Hells yeah.

Look, we've NEVER been 13-0....let us drink our bourbon and be happy.
