There is no exact list of things they do it depends on the consulate, the person, and a huge number of factors. Usually it can but may not involve some of the following or even more that I am not aware of

FBI name check, CIA check, Interpol check, if he/she ever traveled to any other country a check of the records there, financial records check, checks on education, checks for certain political and/or religious affiliations, interviews with other persons family/coworkers/associates, military records check, fingerprints, facial recognition,

It all depends on the flip of a coin it seems.

Good luck and wishing you a short AP.

Call the DOS. Ask them if your administrative processing is background checks with Washington or if it is administrative processing at the embassy. The DOS will be able to tell you.

I am sorry to hear that you got AP.

Waiting.....Waiting....waiting....waiting....and more waiting..........

Is it really necessary to wait 60 days before calling about your AP status like it says here? I'm dieing to call but I don't want to if it will anger them and cause them to take even longer with our case. :(

Calling DoS wont 'anger' them... DoS has access to the same system that the consulate uses and they are able to check the file online to see the status... If anything I would think that it helps to show that the case is important to you...
