It's called SMART PLUG n TALK - this allows you to send text messages for smart to smart in the Philippines for one peso. You call there for same charges like you were still there. And your families can reply and call you same prices. Just buy a load online like what we do in the Philippines when we are out of it. I've been using it for months and it works well. I've been calling my families, friends there all the time without worrying I'll be making our phone bills burst. It's so easy to use and it's like a USB so all you need to have is an internet and a speaker. You can order it online either with load or just the kit.

This certainly makes me feel I am there in the PI coz my friends text and called me everytime they are on unlimeted call and text. It's really cool. You should try it ! !

Hope this will help you with your homesickness :)

GOD BLESS US ALL !! ! !:)

I got mine from this place. They accept paypal. When my load is low, I just go back to the website and pay for another load via paypal. They are fast to process too. Good luck.

I used to talk to my friend when he was living in the RP via Yahoo. It had voice access and was great. Not sure it is still there or not.

Hi MIDUVIL

Sorry for the late reply coz I just got back here. Anyway, it's like USB that you'll just plug it to your computer. After you plugged it there,s a phone look a like that will come out. Then you can start calling and texting your family in your country. I am not sure if it works in other country. If not try vonage or magicjack. And the load is the credit that you will use. It's prepaid and so you don';t have a contract like vonage or magicjack.

I'll tell you what I do. I have a smart sim card and I just bought the 500 peso card to get it going, then I'm good for a long time for receiving text messages, 60 days plus 120, then before it expires, you just put another 500 pesos on it.

So my girl can text me in America for 1 peso

Then I have Google Voice, and I text her back for free. Extra special thanks to Google for that, that really helps me.

for talking and seeing, we use Yahoo Messenger, that's free

and also I have magic jack, I'm considering sending her a magic jack, then we can talk over the phone for free. Magic jack is great, just like a regular phone.

Order vonage here and ship the device over there...

That's what we did. Unlimited calling both directions--and they can use it to call other family/friends in the U.S., Canada and about 60 other countries without charge. We pay for it on the yearly plan which makes it even cheaper. With all taxes and charges it is about $300/year ($25/month)

When using google voice to text her, does she receive a charge on her phone? Thank you.

She doesn't receive any charge because with smart it's free for incoming, so she will text message me in the USA and I don't get charged either, because I have a smart sim card with an unlocked gsm phone, but only cost her 1 peso. I got the sim card for about $6 on ebay, they activated it and sent it to me. I had one that I bought in the Philippines and left it at the airport when leaving, so I lost it and my phone too. It only cost me 100 pesos in the Philippines for a sim card.

So I have it set up pretty good. But if I want to text her back from my regular phone, I get charged 20 cents, but I work during the day and I can't text until I get home anyway, so google works out good for me.

There are also some free sites that let you text message for free, but I don't trust them, they have to make money somehow and I think they might wind up selling phone #'s, but I trust google and haven't had any problems using it.

The cheapest text messaging I have found, if you don't have google voice is Skype, it's about 7 cents per text.

Here's what I do...

1. I have metro PCS cellphone service for $30 a month... unlimited talk and unlimited INTERNATIONAL text, so I use that to text philippines

2. I also have a Smart sim card ... roaming.. just keep P100 pesos load all the time... so my friends and family in the philippines can text me all the time and text them back using my cell phone

3. I have a magic jack as well and my family in the philippines... so whenever they want to call me, they can
