Niels, I respect your opinion. However, the Dell 10, is what it is. There are no "high-speed" options for HD or otherwise. For under $280, is it useful overall for Internet access?

Yes. Cost and benefit analysis. Hey, maybe you want to show a video to a friend in HD. Or you have a HD video camera on vacation and want to upload on the internet.

One big thing is that netbooks cannot do HD. You will be able to play HD videos, but, it's skippy...pauses...then play...then pauses.

I'd spend another 100 hundred dollars to get a refurbished core duo, or Athlon II or whatever processor.

Would this recommendation continue if the use was primarily for mobile computing? e.g. e-mail, Visa journey and so forth?

You can get netbooks with discrete graphics - like the HP 311, but the price is another $75 - $100 higher. If you just want a machine to surf the web and do office stuff - then its fine.

You won't be editing any photos - or anything like that. The processor bottlenecks if you have more than 3 applications open at the same time.
