I love the netbooks as a secondary pc. Really can't be your primary pc 'cause they are underpowered. If You want to use it to check email, chat on YM, Skype, and surf the net, its perfect! You can't use it to edit videos or graphic editing and things. It's best if you can upgrade the RAM to 2 GB to let you use YouTube well. Intel won't allow the netbook running Atom CPU Processor to come with more than 1 GB of RAM OEM. My preference is Asus Netbook. I upgraded easily to 2 GB RAM and 160GB harddrive, and I love it as email, chat and surf machine. I only travel with my netbook now! Windows 7 runs great on the Netbooks, too.

One big thing is that netbooks cannot do HD. You will be able to play HD videos, but, it's skippy...pauses...then play...then pauses.

I'd spend another 100 hundred dollars to get a refurbished core duo, or Athlon II or whatever processor.

Hopp,

I appreciate the feedback. I should have noted that my primary computer is a Dell XPS 420 and my wife has a Dell laptop. This would be for mobile use only.

Would this recommendation continue if the use was primarily for mobile computing? e.g. e-mail, Visa journey and so forth?

Test out the keyboard before buying. It is small and not as comfy to type on. But it gets the job done!

EDIT: The worst part is navigating the screen without a mouse....not fun!

Rogue,

I like the "Clash" very much (my generation), but is this your endorsement of the mobile computer I seek?

Yes. Cost and benefit analysis. Hey, maybe you want to show a video to a friend in HD. Or you have a HD video camera on vacation and want to upload on the internet.

Niels, I respect your opinion. However, the Dell 10, is what it is. There are no "high-speed" options for HD or otherwise. For under $280, is it useful overall for Internet access?
