i just called China to inquire my case and was told guangzhou hasn't received my case yet...

My case was sent out by NVC at the end of of September and it has been almost 3 months. The rep there told me it is common to wait this long but I am a little worried and impatient. Can anybody with experience or knowledge tell me if it is normal or not?

My case is IR5 (parents of US citizen).

Thanks!! :(

If you are in normal process (not electronic processing), the wait is normal. The package might be stuck at Guangzhou custom for inspection. It sometimes takes more than 3 months to be cleared.

Stop calling the China Hotline in Shanghai - they are useless.

Call DOS Hotline, instead, get a human, inquire status. You've got anywhere from 60 to 120 days to wait before 'casefile opened' at GUZ, then another bit of time before the appointment will be scheduled.

BUT - usually - there is 'appointment set' and 'P4 out' on same day for your visa type.

Good Luck !

ps - anyone else reading this - if you want to use NVC Electronic Processing with a GUZ-bound petition - have a read? -> http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/...onic_Processing

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

OK - consider yerself beaten. Then dipped in steamboat, then covered in fun or noodles.

FWIW - 'appointment letters ' have gotten to be a hot topic with NVC, so much so, in fact, that they decided to post a statement about Guangzhou -

http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3190.html

For all Appointment Posts (except, the Consulate General in Guangzhou, China) the NVC will send an appointment letter to all interested parties (applicant, petitioner, and agent/attorney of record, if applicable) notifying them of the date, time, and location of the interview; and forward the petition to the appropriate embassy/consulate. The Consulate General in Guangzhou, China will send appointment letters for cases assigned to it.

There is exception, of course, if using NVC Electronic Processing - NVC sets the calendar , makes the appointment date.

But - if you use 'paper' processing -

There is 60 to 120 day 'wait' on cases sent to GUZ - specifically -

'NVC sent' to 'GUZ open casefile' timeticks.

I just got this message from GUZ IV Unit today, (We are just in receipt of the case file recently. We will schedule an interview for the case in the next two to three months.) so due to this message, when they are about to send the p4 out?

IMO, sometime in the next 3 to 4 weeks.

BUT - why not call the DOS Hotline, get a HUMAN and inquire for Case Status?

I strongly suggest you do this, every day, until you hear:

1. Appointment date set and

2. P4 sent

are you calling DOS, at all? If Not, WHY NOT ?

Thank you Darnell,

I just called the DOS today and the lady said...the case file is in the consulate, when the number is available then the interview date will be set, OMG, how long I have to wait? How long it take to set up an interview after they received the case file? My case is F-3.

Keep calling each day. Take note of the status. Get:

1. current status with the date/time stamp and

2. prior 3 status things, with date/time stamp.

Usually - is

Casefile opened (which I think you have now) and then

P4 sent

and then

Interview Date Set.

The IV Unit at the Consulate in GUZ sets appointments 3 or 4 times each month, in a 'batch cycle'. Usually, the P4 package set is sent out , or bundled to be sent out, either ON the same day, or just prior, of the interview date being 'set'.

Good Luck !
