I know I've seen posts about this same issue but I can't seem to find them and I'm not great at using the search function (I think I get too specific, haha). Anyway ... I received packet 3 from Vancouver yesterday and I'm about to send it off. Do I wait to book my medical until I've been given an interview date or vice versa?

Thanks everyone :)

You can book it before you've been given an interview(I did).

But the medical is valid for 1 year, you'll need it after you move over. So keep that in mind....you don't want to book it too early.

book before interview so that if you are approved you are already done and just waiting for the visa to come. If you book after, you have to wait for them to get the medical and look at it and then approve your stuff which can be annoying an cost extra days!

After reading Inky's post, I wanted to clarify mine. I booked my appointment for my medical for the same day as my interview. I got my interview date from Vancouver, then I set up my medical appointment. The appointments are set for January 13, 2010.

I love being a Canadian.

This is what I am hoping to do as well. I sent my checklist off to Vancouver today with my preferred dates, hopefully one of them works out and the medical can be done then, too! :)

Definitely do not want to book the medical until you know your interview date if you have to travel to BC and do everything in one shot.

They really need more than 1 panel physician in western Canada! The consulate and medical office are somewhat understanding of that fact!

I called DOS two days after sending back my packet 3 & they had scheduled my date already! Had the airline tickets booked after that...(seat sale!!) I prob shoulda waited for pk 4 but oh well it took 1.5 weeks to arrive!!

I didn't even know that was a possibility! I thought I would probably e-mail the consulate to see if they received it ... but calling DOS would probably be better, I've already e-mailed the consulate enough :P Finding out ASAP would be preferred ... as much notice as possible for my employer and also for plane tickets would be great.

They definitely need more than one physician in Western Canada ... I wonder why they changed it in the first place.
