Pinoy RN's who are also US-RN's

Hi all!

It's been a while since I last posted here, and now I'm back! LOL!

I just recently took my NCLEX last month and passed it.

Now, I'm getting ready to look for a job. Hope I could get one soon.

However, I have some questions for those who had their 1st time looking for a job.

Can you gimme some tips? I had worked as a nurse after I passed my local boards.

Though, I was only hired for 9 months and I was directly hired.

I worked on a hospital that specializes labor and delivery though I worked more as a ward nurse.

So, I only assist the midwife during the delivery. Now, it's been more than a year since I was unemployed.

I'm kinda having a hard time remembering certain nursing skills and techniques.

Does your employer orient and train an incoming employee for several months?

If yes, for how long? Do you still get paid for it?

What is a sign-on bonus? Is that a contract? If yes, what's a good sign-on bonus?

What is the area you are currently working on? Are you on a specialty nursing?

Do potential employers care how long you were out of school and unemployed?

I usually get nervous during personal interviews, can you suggest anything that might divert my nervousness?

Is getting into an nursing agency better than just submitting your application to different hospitals?

Is getting certified for BLS/AED important prior to applying?

I think these are all my questions.

I would greatly appreciate if anybody can advise me on this.

I can't give you any tips but want to congratulate you for passing the test. I have a couple of friends still in nursing school so will monitor this thread to help them too.

Congratulations for passing the NCLEX-RN!

I suggest you post your question in allnurses.com website because you can get more answers from people who are USRNs (seeking jobs and currently working). Click on the regions (United States) and select the state where you are planning to work as RN. There are many people in that website who can help you answer on your concerns and in same location to you. The nature/process of hiring, job requirements, nature of the job, salary rate and benefits may vary among the different states and institutions/hospitals. So it depends on which state are you in now.

Sign On Bonus - $7,000 to $10,000. Usually 2 year contract. You can waive/decline the bonus and not sign a contract.

BLS and your other certs you should get before applying

If you get hired on as a New Grad you will go thru a 3 to 4 month training period, You will get full pay during this time.

You must not be nervous during your interview, Empolyers like to see confident applicants
