I have a SSN from a previous J1 visa, and it has the "only valid for work with DHS authorization" stamp on it. Do I have to get it removed as soon as I get to the US? I was under the impression I had to wait until AOS or at least EAD. Doesn't look like you can't work without EAD, right?

A ) You'll get more reads and faster replies if you start your own thread. Doing so puts them out on the front page for all to see, jumpstarting the process. Being buried down in here, the only people who see your question are those already tracking the thread. FYI :)

B ) Your card is already exactly the same kind that any K-1 entrant would get. You don't get a new card with that stamp removed until you become a permanent resident and show them your two-year green card.

You are correct. You cannot work until you have an EAD card in your hand.

DON'T PANIC

Nope we haven't done that yet. My guess is as good as yours. I am curious about it though. I found a civil surgeon in Hickory, so we'll probably head there. There's a few in Charlotte too, Greensboro etc

I'm pretty curious about it too. I'm guessing within the 100-150 range.

Hi, When you went to the civil surgeon was it in Hickory NC? and How much did they charge you? We are wondering what they did because our appointment is on Wednesday. Thanks so much :)
